Hey guys,
I've heard 2 different stories from 2 different mechanics i thought i'd ask here,
When bedding in new brake pads, should you go on a short trip and hammer the brakes alot, or slowly increase your braking power over the next couple of hundred k's?
Both arguments seem to have some good points, but what do you guys reckon?

Refer the pad manufacturers "bedding in" instructions. They can be found on the packaging of the brake pads.

It's not the sort of thing I'd apply a "1 size fits all" approach to. In my experience different pad manufacturers recommend different bedding in proceedures, I've always followed these, and never had a problem.

*edit* - if you get your pads fitted by a mechanic, and hence you don't see the box they come in, ask the mechanic to bed the pads in as per the manufacturers spec (they should anyway).

Get it right or you'll end up with noisey brakes, warped discs or a combination of both.

I recently installed 4pr of pads... read both Bendix & Ferodo instructions.

For bedding in they recommend accelerate up to 60-80km/h, then brake moderately to 20
without completely stopping (if possible). Then drive 3 mins and repeat for 5-10 times.

Proper bedding-in will heat cycle the pads, should help them wear better.
Many pads also come with a bedding-in layer from the factory.
