We as some of you may know ive spent some money on my car in the past month or so..
Had the LSD put in 5 weeks ago and also a set of RPW race Extractors and also had the Haltech Stand alone computer put in to replace the crap stock ECU....
I was very happy with RPW headers but had a bad rattley noise out of the Extractors from day one.. Had it looked at and it was coming from the flex joins..
I had Liverpool Exhaust take a look at it and it all went from there.. Before i had stock Exhaust split into two and dualies out the back..
Well after dropping my car off in the morning Yesterday and them only finish it at 430 this arvo this is what happened..
RPW Extractors where chopped and widened before the flex joins. both flex joins removed and it all flows into 3inch into one single three inch flex join and into a 3 inch flange.. From there went into a highflow metal Cat and the biggest straight through muffler they could get under the car. all 3 inch mundrel bent and goes down to a "Y" peice over the back cross member and sway bar and out each side.. Two of the biggest Lukey turbo flow mufflers on the market under the rear. They did a very good job on the pipe work but i was stressing about how loud it was going to be being 3"..
Its very quiet, it is no louder than i had before and that was very quiet to after my EPA defect.. if anyone heard it they would never pick it to be a magna with a 3" mundrel Exhaust.. I lov it..
I took a few pics but lighting was bad and they where on my mobile phone..
Very happy with the job..

I have the same bloody RPW/Liverpool Buzz. So they replaced the flex joints and it went away? One would ask why they put on obviously faulty flex joints.

Its so much better.. its got such a better note to it too.. Little more of a rumble at idle and less noisier when going.. The drone is great when going to.. I had drone before..:)
Cars feels much nicer to drive.. Doesnt feel so restricted like it did on stock exhaust.. Car just wants to go now..:)

6 more weeks than you can have a sound clip..:P

Yeah id Suggest anyone with RPW Extractors that have the buzzing/rattle noise comin from them get intouch with David from RPW to git sorted.. it was a fault in the flex pipes which has now been fixed.. If you talk to david and sort it Liverpool Exhaust is happy to sort it for you from there..

last time i checked N/A car's, especially magna's didn't need 3 inch exhausts. hope your putting mirrors under the car to show them off. those extractor mods look the goods

There most likely is no gain without a number of engine mods. An exhaust needs an amount of back pressure to scavange spent gasses. without this, there can be problems further down the system.
I have seen an exhaust that actually has a section where the overall diameter of the exhaust was reduced by an inch in one section to create an amount of back pressure. the restriction was in a tapered fashion, much like 2 cones back to back ><, the results were amazing.
BTW was on a supercharged big block v8, but the principles carry over.
I am not saying that this isn't going to be working though.

Maybe, just maybe there is going to be something to go with the 3 inch echaust and full haltech computer, can anyone guess?
Oh and mitsiman has showed in the past that at the least there is no loss from a 3"
Grr EGO, I was typing that before you posted.

i think mitsiman (dave) put a 3" exhuast on a N/A magna and they actually got a performance gain.. can't remember where the post is.. was a while ago

I will say one thing.. With the exhaust on and the standard ECU the car did feel nicer to drive.. More reponsive and torque was better lower off.. But i think thats more from the extractor mod..:P

I have the same bloody RPW/Liverpool Buzz. So they replaced the flex joints and it went away? One would ask why they put on obviously faulty flex joints.
I've got the same buzz/whoosing/fizzing/rasp whatever noise that others with RPW headers have commented on. I got in touch with Liverpool Exhausts and they were exceptionally helpful. They are sending me a replacement double braided front flex section that I have to get cut and welded in here in Melbourne.
As the story goes, single braided flex was mistakenly used on the smaller front section of the dump pipe. The internal wall of this flex is not smooth as with a double braided pipe and the result is the shiiitte noise we're hearing. So fingers crossed this is the solution. I'll post again when I get the new flex in.
Doing a seach of the web I have come across a couple of other forums where single braided flex has caused a whoosing/buzz noise so I hope that's all it is and not an inherent resonance in the header design.

Mmmhhh :doubt:
The term 'back pressure" relates to 2-stroke engine principle. 4-stroke donk exhaust system may not have back pressure. What ppl mean with the back pressure prolly is that enlarging the piping too much will decrease flow speed and consequently reduce the "scavenging" effect. Especially on low RPM.
But - Big revs + Big donk + Big pipes = good.
What comes to LPool Exh - it seems they have picked up their game. Nothing like that when I was dealing with them few years ago re one of the very first RPW headers stuff. Good to see!
Wonder if I can now go and get my flexi pipe rattle fixed, back then I was laughed at :sook:

Id Say if your RPW extractors are doing this your first step should be to Contact Dave at RPW..:)

Success!! RPW headers are fixed! And sound freaken awesome.
The whoosing noise WAS the front flex coupling. (At least for me it was)
Looking inside it, I was reminded of a musical instrument. Had it cut out and a double braided flex put in and all is sweet sounding now.
Anyone with RPW headers who is still suffering in silence, go get it sorted.

Don't know that RPW offer warranty on 2nd hand extractors...... and the original owner never did anything about the noise  (honestly........ I kinda liked it  ).
Any chance you could post up a pic of the inside of the front flex pipe Mark?? would be interesting to see it.

Dude - did back then. It would have taken "weeks to rectify, because it was unknown fault" as was replied by LPool guys. That Jim guy also said, it's not in their interest to do warranty jobs, cos they produce no money. Nice to hear from a customer's point of view, eh! Obviously I already had the car with them for over a week re-designing the front primarys, cos they were way too low, and that was fixed ok. And when I saw how they drove their customers' cars when moving them around, I had no interest leaving mine there any longer.... So, I just gave up re the flexi rattle. I clamped it and it's not as bad.
But as I mentioned, it seems they have lifted their game now.

IMHO,
It's in the best interests of the manufacturer and distributor to ensure that the end users are happy with the product. Bad feedback is not conducive to future sales. And based on my recent experience, I feel RPW and Liverpool Exhaust are doing a suitable job in rectifying this particular manufacturing mistake.
