Hello All,

I am thinking of upgrading my Current TE Advance Magna. Im pretty happy with the current car, but I am looking to chnage to somthing newer.

I think the magna has been a good car for the last year I have owned it (I just wanted a family car that was cheap, comfortable and reliable). I have always been into cars, so naturally this time around I am looking for somthing a LITTLE sporty. I was interested in a BA falcon XR6, but I really just cannot see how they are worth $10,000 more than a XT when there is ultimately little difference between them besides some alloys, a body kit and different interior. Its mainly the handeling I was after (sure, I could fit sports suspension, but I want the car otherwise standard). I have drive a BA falcon and VX commodore sometimes at work, The Falcon is good, the Commodore complete rubbish. One thing I do notice drving both these cars compared to the TE magna, its just how much more bottom end grunt they have than the magna (even if overall acceration is not that much different), its just much more useable power.

Also, without getting into a debate, I much prefer RWD... hence why I am looking at the AWD model magna. I am also attracted to the 5sp Auto, somthing thats not avaiable on the BA Falcons.

Some questions people might have an opionion on

- How much closer is the 3.5 to the falcadores?
- In day to day terms, does the AWD models have good bottom end power?
- How much should I pay for a TL AWD VR or VR-X? I might even consider a TJ sports AWD.

I am also planning to convert to LPG, if power is a little down, Im not so worried, especially if power on petrol remains the same.

regards,

Adam.

took my tj stock awd... down my lil test strip and at the end of it it was 5km faster than my EF which was identical in acceleration to a VZ exec alloytech to 120kmh, they go alright... the 5spd is super low in first so it gets off the line pretty good, keep in mind though the old 3.8L holden didnt have any more torque than a 3.5 magna...

The TJ AWD's are not that different mechanically. The TL/TW's have some extra safety gear though. I was in the same position when I bought my a year ago, except the TL's were too pricey then. I'm sure I've seen that mitsubishi saw the sports/VRX models are not LPG compatible. Someone else can help you with that.
About bottom end grunt, they are not bad, but not the same as the few recent falcons I've driven. Lots of frictional losses, and mine doesn't have the sports exhaust, and the those couple of extra KW's (yet  ). They are fun to drive, they sound better (all FWD's like magnas and camry's seem to have that tinny sound from transaxle). The 5 speed auto is nice and smooth, and everyone whose driven my car has said now nice it is on the road (my dad is constantly mentioning how much nicer the ride is compared to his VX).
But, I'd love a TW VRX. the alloys on the VR and early VRX's are abit ugly, but I like the body kit.
Its also really good on gravel roads, esp with a bid of mud. Much safer to drive
