hi people
i was hoping if some1 could help me out. I have a 2nd gen sedan and would like advice with where to put a single boxed 12’ sub to get the best sound in the ****pit?
I have tried a few diff spots the two best ones that I have found so far are:

1- behind back seat facing backwards
2- back of boot (most far away from driver) facing forward

Any hints?

Thanks

directly behind driver at back of boot facing backwards....
That way you get the sound waves that propagate in all directions in phase with each other...

All trial and error besides that.

There is a steel barrier that separates the boot from the cabin, with only a small opening in the middle of the back seat. Aprox 1ft X 1ft This affects the sound considerably. Had a wagon b4 with all the same hardware, sound wz so clear even with lamo speakers. Now bass has gone. And u can hear the sound bouncing around in the boot from the 6’9’s it sounds dirty and I miss my bass. Will getting tighter 6’9’s and lining the boot with something soft (dampening) help reduce the dirty sound.??
And should I upgrade the sub and amp (to get through that steel barrier) or is this just banging my head against a brick wall?

I take it the steel barrier you are talking about is just the back of the seat? in which case it isnt very thick, and sub frequencies will pass through fairly easily.

The dirty sound is resonances and rattles, something soft wont do anything as the metal itself will still resonate. You need to put deadener on this like stinger roadkill or dynamat to reduce the resonant frequency. Will make your bass a lot cleaner.

Are your 6x9's playing full range? They should be highpassed around 100 hz to keep the sub frequencies away, (you want your sub freq coming from your subs)

Good luck

the 6*9's are running a hpf that only lets sound above 125hz through ill try a dynamat or something because it sounds like the 6*9's are playing in a steel drum!!

Thanks for the advice, greatly appreciated

yeah best sub placement in the second gen is facing backwards from the open ski port, leaving a gap between the skiport and sub enclosure

also get some rubber or cardboard cos youll probably have to jam it in the bootlid to prevent embarrasing bootrattle......

OR u and 2 of ur mates chip in $12 each and get a carton of beer, drink it, and rip the carton up and wedge it between the bootlid and frame.....

.......or you COULD do it the proper way :P

Thanks all for the advice.

I got some serious rattles coming out of my boot lid (easy fixed with packers or body deadner) however one of the loudest rattles is the spoiler I had a good look @ it and it seems that the whole spoiler is bowing in the middle, giving the break light and whatever else is in there a ride. Has anyone had this problem before?
At the moment I am thinking about making a middle mount out of car bog and rubber. (Colour coded) to stop it shaking?

i put mine in the back right hand corner of my boot and put the amp over the little cargo space looks nice i will try to get some picks up but just need some red neons to match the car, just another idea thrown at u though, and hey who needs sound deadening when god invented cardboard lol, hail VB
