I was stranded once with Immobiliser cable connector being bit loose. Yeah, it was too simple to fix with cable tie..... Different cable than this case though, but still.

Hey good find guys! I've just started having this problem with my 02 tj sports (26,000 k's ), it's been sitting still lately so i thought it was a weak battery. kinda seems to run on a couple cylinders then stalls. At least now if it contionues to do it i know what to look for :D or drive 300ks to the nearest mitsu service center and have them do it under warranty

One of the symtoms to check.
If your car won't start first time.
Try this :-
Turn on the ignition to position II, i.e. just before cranking.
Wait for 5 or so seconds until some of the check lights go out, then start the car.
Trying a second time without recycling the key doesn't work as described in the article.
I had experienced this problem for 6 months, starting immediately after a service!
If I waited as above, the car would then start immediately.
Eventually, took the car back in for the next service. One battery later, about 6 weeks ago, has fixed the problem. No problems so far.
Don't forget that in Australia, with extremely high under bonnet temperatures during summer that 3 years is a good battery life.
I had an El Falcon some years ago and that would destroy its battery in a year without fail!!

spud's point is true too, a little known issue with batteries is that if they are not all that crash hot, they will produce similar behavior, my old man's tj vrx was doing that not always start first go thing, replaced the battery, and its been gold ever since.
tho mine was a dodgey something to do with the imobilser :-)
yer, the high under bonnet temps, i started to notice apattern that if it was a hot middle of the day, or id been driving for a while, and parked and came back to start the car, it would play up, i started to blame a hot battery/poor power in heat issue, but the same issue 1st thing on a cold morning soon p***sed that idea way :-)
for me anyway :-)

The cold weather that we are currently having severly affects battery life, and I would say 4/5 of the electrical issues that members have been experiencing are battery related. The Mitsubishi OEM batteries are also reknown for going out slowly, with the first indication being occassional unreliability.
