Hello all,

Great site and great resource everyone.

I have an NB Pajero Sport SWB, which I am sure you all know has the Astron 2.6 4G54 engine, and I want to convert it to EFI. I know this is a magna site, but it seems to be the best place on the net for getting info on modding 4G54 engines, so thought I would try my luck to see how deep the knowledge base goes for these engines.

I have had a look at the links posted on this site for the conversion, which were really useful. I think I have most things sorted out. I plan to get all the required bits and piences from my local wrecker this weekend. I know I will need to modify the plenum so the throttle body faces in the opposite direction due to the Paj having a differnt engine orientation. What I am unsure about is whether I need to do the same for the main coolent line. As is it will require a very long hose to reach the radiator. Apart from that does anyone here have an idea as to whether there will be a problem with it hitting the firewall and if so what the best way to overcome it is?

Any help would be appreciated

I know nothing about converting that, but welcome to the site!

Gday and welcome to the club :D.
I'm not sure what the engine bay's like but you may need to also modify the inlet runners as these may not be able to clear the radiator assembly. A good idea may be to see if someone with an efi engine could come round so you could get some measurements to see what may have to be changed. Good luck with it

I am not sure what you mean by the inlet runners. I have attached a pic of the engine bay incase its useful. Not a great pic, but you get the drift.

I see what you mean about possible problems with the plenum chamber. I just had a quick squiz under my bonnet and the plenum chamber is shorter than the rocker cover so you shouldn't have problems there. Moving the throttle body attachment should be fun though. :doubt:

The intake runners are the tubes that run from the head to the plenum chamber. The reason why I think it may be a squeeze is that they actually take up a fair bit of room.

If you do want to meet up with another person from amc to check lengths and fits etc, just post in the queensland section here (http://www.aussiemagna.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=18).

There may also be a bit more info on this site for sigma and galant owners as, as far as I know, they have the astron engine in the same orientation as you. http://www.sigma-galant.com/

Thanks for the tip on the web site. I found one link that may prove useful. For anyone like myself looking for the same solution I thought I'd add it agin here....

http://users.chariot.net.au/~emengee/mitsubishiprojects/index2.htm

I don't know if it will be useful for me, but assuming that I have the same firewall clearance an upside down sigma thermostat housing might do the trick. I think I'll try and use a fexible steel banded radiator hose instead of the exhaust tubing though.

Thanks for the offer of getting some measurements but I'll get off my sorry *** tomorrow and get down to a wrecker at lunch time to take some.

If anyone has any other ideas or tips (for the coolant or for the EFI conversion in general) I'd love to hear them.

Take a read through the 1st gen section, some people have done the conversion.

You might also want to check out www.astron2.com

my mate converted his GK GSR Sigma to efi. it was easy except for a few things (plenum/throttle being the wrong way was the big one)...

as for room in your engine bay, that's something you need to determine if the plenum and associated equipment fits in there.

the EFI system with all the loom will work pretty much as a bolt on with a few small mods though.

can scan you wiring diagrams, etc... get me on msn sometime if your interested... it's in my profile.

Cheers,
Bill
