hey a month or two ago there was a thread about people putting a 3rd gen manual gear boot over the auto shifter, it was only roughly $20 to do which is an awesome price but more importantly it was a nice black colour, does anyone have any idea if it would fit in place of a 2nd gen gear boot as mine is screwed and is screaming to be replaced

Have you called Mitsu to see if they stock 2nd gen Gear Boots - or maybe an Auto Interior place.

I've been wondering about my Gear Boot as well. Mine's not bad but it is starting to show signs of wear.

I thought of getting a shift gate style plate made up from Stainless Steel or just steel (painted black or covered in fake CF film). Similar to a Lambo or Ferrari. But then I started thinking - I want a Short Shift kit one day and that may change the gear selector path slightly - so decided to wait. Also I'm not sure if the Magna Gear path suits a metal plate.
Then I saw Gear Boots made from flexible Carbon Fibre sheets (Real CF - not fake stuff).

So now I'm undecided

Below are pics of various shift gates I'm talking about and the Real CF Boots.
