Hey everyone, just wondering what your thoughts are on the 6g72 12v SOHC engines, Are they worth modifying? say turbo? has anyone got some decent power out of them?

check out the 2nd gen section in post my ride and other threads like that to get some ideas, all cars are worth modding if u honestly have the time and effort to put into it!!
when your talking turbos and superchargers etc u looking at a lot of money, not to say it cant be done but very very expensive, other than that you should start with the basics like sports exhaust system, Extractors, K&N air filter/panel filter and so on!!

You can do great things to a 6G72 engine. Like Matty_J said look at the 2nd section. And unless you have serious money and time dont bother with a turbo setup. You'd probably be up for $10,000 for a good setup. Im no expert mind you.

...Well i know for stage 1 cams your looking at about $1,000 just there, stage 2 and 3 require upgraded valves and springs....honestly i havent seen a turbo SOHC 2nd gen V6 yet.....im still sure it would go like a rocket......but i mean depends where you want to put your money, becuase that DOHC TT Engine option is always there.....and thats Mucho Powero.......
i Would have a chat to KB and GoTRICE about the DOHC conversions if your going to do that, or even for there opinion on it, they know what there talking about.

DOHC conversion to the 2nd gen is the only way to go as far as I'm concerned. It's an easy and relatively inexpensive thing to do

KB is right, but KB also got his DOHC for a steal!
The engine has a 10:1 comp ratio so to turbo or s/c with any real reliability you need to rebuild the motor.
Id personaly say that extractors, high flow cat, catback, fuel pressure regulator and a revised intake setup will give you a bootful more power. Not too expensive, not too hard to get done and after thats done you can decide on wether or not to go for more power.

It's still a cheap thing to do. And the fact that it's bolt in, can use a stock diamante computer for it means there's no engineering like is required with a turbo setup on a 4cyl. So it is very easy and cheap, but I see what you're saying...the mods you've stated will give a very nice increase in power and driveability

Craig never finished his car as there were some legal issues he couldn't get around with the conversion (remembering he went from 4 to DOHC 6). I haven't heard from him in quite some time...so I have no idea what he's up to now...last I heard he was using the motor in a Cobra kit car

Or instead of using the N/A DOHC 6G72 you could use the TT DOHC 6G72 from the 3000GT/GTO, which has a 8:1 comp ratio ;).
In my opinion the 6G72 is a more tunable engine then the 6G74's due to it being more oversquare. It's definately a tough engine, as that 800 odd kW 3000Gt vid that was on here a while ago shows :D

Yeah but then you still need an aftermarket computer and from what im told the TT doesnt fit without major firewall surgery because of back bank turbo clearance issues, the GTO has a very long front end.

Even if he does decide to go DOHC the only real thing that will need swapping are the headers which could be sold to make up some of the cost.

I have two 6g72 powered cars. 12 valve Verada and 24 valve TF magna. There is no comparison, the 24 valve wins hands down in so many ways. The 12 valve, in my opinion and experiences, is a very underpowered and unreliable engine and it really ****s me. lol. I'd prefer a 4 cylinder ANY DAY over the 2nd gen v6.
