I have a 91 mitsubishi magna.

Now when Im stopped at traffic lights, i can hear the engine whir up and down.

When I put it on park and pull the handbrake up, the RPM goes from 1 to 1.7 to 1 to 1.7 and so forth.

Is this normal?

Or is it a problem.
If its a problem, what is it, and is it easy to fix (have fixed)

I dont know the specs of 91 models... Are they carbie or fuel injected.. if carbied it could be the levels, making it "hunt"

I'm no mechanic whiz and I don't know if you are but, cleaning up the throttle, carbie and setting the levels on the carbie may fix this and should be easy, FYI incase you don't know, it sets the air-to-fuel ratios i think, and this can be out, causing hunting

Lol naw, no mechanic :D

THanks for the reply.

Also just noticed, it does it after a while of driving.
When you first start it, it doesnt do it.

Same with the slight whining noise.

Same with the slight whining noise.
That could be a vacumn leak that would also cause idle problems.

Inlet manifold gasket? Carbi to inlet manifold gasket? or a hose?

had a problem in my mum's old 82 corolla, it turned out to be a head gasket problem, when warm, the idle is terrible, so bad that it stalls, have yours checked by a mechanic, it doesn't sound as bad as my mum's old corolla, but it does sound like a seal issue.
