well like the title says, how do i adjust it. cos im going on a decent size road trip down to NSW and i want to make sure its all set right, the car runs good just want to be sure. dont want to be wasting fuel now.
anyway i have a gregories manual but after reading it i was just confused:nuts: mainly cos it says i need a tackometer (bs) . so can anyone out there tell me how its done in layman's terms. suerly its not that hard. well i mean if i can take out the engine and gearbox by themselfs im sure i can adjust this.

oh p.s its a tp efi and normally it idles at 900-950 rpm and on a cold day 1000-1200rpm

all I know is that you need a digital multimeter, we adjust ours using one and our tps likes to sit on about 49.0 We followed the manual and the car runs smicko.

1. pull out the plastic end cap from the tps
2. turn ur ignition to on
3. stick the prongs of the multimeter into the tps ( where the manual tells you to, its late and i cant remember the numbers i think its 2 and 4)
4. read the meter and see where it is sitting, should be between 46 and 54 ( if i remember correctly???)
5. to actually adjust, there is a black knobby cricular thing just under the tps that is screwed in, undo the screws slightly and gently tap the black thing ( all this technical jargon im using here lol) I will say that this is what we do with our car, if you are unsure or dont like this then dont do it. I absolve myself right now of any liability if you follow this and it ****s up.
If you tap it on the left side ( looking at it from the direction of the radiator) it will make the numbers higher, and tap it to the right and they will go down, depending on where you want it to sit. Be very gentle and dont unscrew the screws too far, just use the end of the screw driver and watch the multimeter as you are doing it, to ensure that you arent tapping too hard.
Sometimes if the adjustment is too far out the car may baulk when the car is driven over 2000 rpm. ( This is our problem as our tps and mps is faulty and we need to monitor where the tps is sitting to prevent this problem from recurring)

If the car is running nicely and you are happy with it, i dont recommend playing with it too much. And I highly recommend that you follow the manual, as it is quite useful.
It isnt a hard thing to do once you have done it.

Have fun and good luck.

What is the TPS and what does it do?

throttle position sensor... gives ECU and/or TCU a reading to how much the throttle is open

Would this be why at full throttle (pedal to the floor) the throttle is not fully open?
