The O/D on my auto box is not engaging it seems to go into neutral. Gears 1 to 3 work fine with no slipping. I had it repaired a few years ago but i am wondering if i can repair it myself or if i have to take it back to the auto transmission workshop.
I have looked through the forum but could find any answers.

join the club, my O/D went a while back, it just revs out yeah? well thats the 'neutral' part you said. I drive with it off, dosent make much difference

Very difficult to do if you have no idea what your doing, a bit easier if you have worked on autos before, its the O/D band, most likely snapped or not on correctly

Will cost, about $200 - $450 id say just to repair it and fix it up (might be cheaper on the on the 1st gens)

Thanks for the replies
Last time i had it repaired it cost me $200 including service and the parts list mentioned springs and steels for the o/d
If i get time i might take of the side cover and have a sticky beak and take it from there.
I,ll be replacing all of the central locking solenoids this weekend and hopefully it will go as planned

Do i need any special tools to do this? I took the front wheel off and undid what looked like a drain hole on the bottom of the cover and only a couple of drops of oil came out.So i am guesing that the end clutch is just worn

when draining ur auto the it needs to be warm first and not just sitting in the driveway reving it either u need to go for a drive so the car uses all the gears . then before u undo the drain plug u have to undo the oil cooler hose first. because there's a couple of ltrs og oil still in the converter and oil cool lines. so put the cooler line into tin then start car a put into N , a couple of lts wiil come out but DO NOT run the car for more than 2 mins. now undo the drain plug , once all the oils out then take off the pan and replace the internal filter ,o-ring and gasket.
now when topping up go to a hardware store a but 1 meter of clear tube. when u rifill it push one end off the tube into the dip stick level check hole and the other end onto a funnel , makes filling it up a brezze except it takes a little longer but atleast theres no mess.
now to check the level u need the tranny warm otherwise u wont get a propper reading.
and presto serviced. im not sure about special tools except for a torqure wrench and maybe snap ring pliers but if u want to know 100% just pm magna buff and he'll be able to tell ya no problems.

good luck with the service and overdrive clutch replacement.
