I've had these Ford BA Falcon 18" wheels on my 1996 RAV4 for the last year and a half. Took them off the RAV4 today as i'm selling it soon as I bought my 2000 KJ Verada 2 weeks ago.
Since i've been looking at getting some new wheels for the Verada anyway i thought i'd chuck them on the car and see what they look like. Personally i think they look great but they won't be staying on as the front wheels stick out past the guards. The rear wheels sit perfetly in line with the guards. The offset of these wheels is +36mm. Looks like if i go for another set of 18" x 8" rims they'll need to have an offset of around +38mm or +40mm for the front to be in line with the guards?

yeah, i wish someone told me that before i spent over 2k on rims... either way, yours loks liek they stick out a bit further than mine, but they should be the same offset.. anyway, that don't stick out 'that' muc, and i rekon the look alright on your car too :)

I dont understand because i have 17x8 xr6 rims on my TJII and they sit a couple of mm inside the guards, a perfect fit  .

Here's a top view showing how much the front wheels stick out past the guards. Hmmm, the car could do with a wash too!

Yeah i've got the same mags on my TJ and they stick out that far..do u also find that handling in a straight line is really dodgy too..i've also got some pretty bad un even tyre wear on the front to..done bout 10,000k's on them too.

Your tracks are too wide (can't change by more than 1") so the whole suspension
geometry is out of whack causing too much negative camber. This is why mods like this
are illegal. Loose control of your car, crash into another car and kill the people in that car
and you wish you were never born.

Am i to take a guess that the 18inch ford rims use a slightly different offset to the 17's?
Ones 17x8 and the other is 18x8.
I'm running 17x8 on my TJII and haven't noticed any bad handling.
I know my rims are legal as my car had the option of 7 inch wide rims from factory.
Does anyone know if the TJ and TJII had different offsets? Or even clearance? Or ANY differences? If indeed the 18's and 17's share the same offset?

Yeah thanks Vlad, but don't remember asking you..spose i'm also a young kid who speeds everywhere and think burnouts are cool infront of my mates...:gtfo:
Had the car serviced today and wheel alignment done, she's all good now..front right was out.

Yeh i'd be interested to get some answers to your questions too. Does anyone know?

The 18x8 have less offset so that they don't rub on the inside as the 18x8 have
245 wide tyres as opposed to 235 wide tyres on the 17x8. 18x8 runs 35mm offset and the
17x8 runs 40mm offset. Thus, the 5mm from the offset plus 10mm of wider tyres means it'll
stick out by at least 10mm thats because the 10mm extra width is in the tread only, not
the whole tyres width.

Excellent, that answers my question :).
Also you wouldn't know the offset difference between series 1 xr6 17's and series 2 17's? As bain has put his rims on choongas TH i think and they stuck out, whereas my series 1 rims dont on my TJII. Could there be a difference between TH/TJ?

Not sure, series 1s could be running 17x7.5 as the base model 17" wheel options are the
17x7.5. Definitely no difference between TH and TJ offset wise.

Hmmm maybe, i thought they were 8inch wide though. Might have to look into that. They have 235/45 rubber on them.
