Was wondering if any one can shed some light on my young blokes Magna problem.
His car is a TR 4G54 Manual, it was doing all the things that would suggest a failing ECI/ECU

The car was given to him with variouse electrical problems, cracked starter motor, shutting down when it felt like it.

I cured the starter problem buy buing a unlicenced automatic wreck and replacing the starter. all went well untill the other day, when it just gave up the ghost, I removed the ECI/ECU had a look inside and noticed a resistor had burnt out, so i went back to the auto wreck and pulled out the ECI/ECU, I noticed that they are different in part numbering, decription and inside as well.
Manual car has an ECI Mitsubishi Part# AW329505 Bosch Part#9 260 060 021
Auto Car has ECU different part number to ECI

Well what the hell (in for a penny in for a pound) I put the auto one in the manual car and it fired up ok :-)

When I opened both units I noticed a few more chips (no fish though) in the manual one,

My question is what do the extra bits do ???

Basicly the board looks the same except for a chip marked M5L27128K-I and one marked
M68011-0131J and a few more resisters.

Also can the old unit be repaired ? I live in Rockingham W.A.

P.S. Anyone chasing parts for an auto, gearbox, shifter ect send me an email.

Regards

The manual has a different map to that of the auto. Besides this there is no difference.

The reason you have 2 different looking models is in 93 (i think) there was a revision of the board.

The reasont he unit dies is the capacitor leaks and the electrolite is acidic.

Just a FYI, the trans ECu is also the same from 4cyl to v6, again only difference is shift patterns.

The aussie trans has the 2 plug and the jap 3 plug TCU, besides this, if it plugs in it works. The 3 lug units are the hard to get buggers, these were more rare than the 2 plug (I have 2 here not lol)

Yep Id say your right! the resistor is right under th capacitor.

Should I use the auto map censor as well??

I havent road tested it yet so I m not sure what will happen under load.

where can I get the old ecu repaired ???

and how expensive would it be?

from what i remember with an auto ecu it'll just run richer and i believe that places prefer to replace the whole ecu rather than repair...

Auto one definitely runs richer. I'm using an auto ecu on a manual and I'm trying to find a manual one as fuel economy is pretty average...

May just go an aftermarket ecu tho...

Spoke to Mitsubishi parts today they said that they didnt recognise the part number on my ECI and that it should have a AW319647 in it??? they also said the correct one for a Magna up to Jan 1993 is part# Aw319647 and this was used on both manuals and auto's???
Will have to check out the numbers on the auto one.
