Gents, A close friend of mine is looking for a first car for his daughter. He has been offered a 96 SE V6 with a 150,000 Km's on the clock. Body wise it is in Perfect condition, with a full service history.

Do you gents think $6500 is a fair price ?

Anything to check for ?

Sorry also a Auto

Comments , suggestion and recommoned price please.

Thanks

Dan

If it's the 3rd Generation shape (TE) then it's definately worth it. It's 7 years old and on average should have done 25,000km/year so its about 25,000 under the mark at 150,000.

Get your local RACV/RAA to give it the once over, for $100 you get a fairly accurate guide of whats wrong with it.

$6500 = Good price!

As long as the car got its timing belt changed at it's 100k service and it has a full service history it should be fine.

Is it auto or manual??

If they take it for a test drive tell them to do complete turning circles to make sure that the CV's are not ready to fall out (they make that loud clicking noise on turning)

Test the brakes gently and firmly to make sure the car will stop quickly if needed to

Drive the auto (I assume it will be auto) fairly heavily to make sure it shifts ok - if it clunks it could need an oil change

but price wise - that is below the average price on these things and the mileage is about average - so in all i think it is a a good buy if the car is in good shape - thats IMHO!!

And yeah - this is assuming it is a 3rd Gen!! not a TS
