i have a te magna sedan. i have been having this problem with it for some time and its getting to the point where i want to blow it up
its hard to explain but i will give it a go. sometimes and i mean sometimes, on the passenger side, it makes a high pitched ......... well i wouldn't call it a squeeling, but thats as close as i can come up with. it sounds like when you shut an iron gate and it makes that noice......
it only does it when i am going slow. and it is LOUD.
but it only does it sometimes.
i took it to the mechanic and they said that they couldn't find anything wrong with it. its not the brakes.
but when i felt the brakes it was really hot.
to me (but i wouldn't really know) it sounds like soemthing is rubbing against something. (metal to metal)
please someone give me some ideas on what the hell is going on. so i can go to them and say check this and that.
thanks

First thing, go to a different mechanic lol.
Does it do it whilst braking? does it change pitch with different speeds?

the only reason i go to that mech is because they are the only ones in town that can have an account with. :doubt:
it has always had sqeaky brakes. this noise just pops out of no where. if it is a bad day where it won't stop it doesn't change pitch it just goes faster. thats why i am thinking it might be something grabing something else or rubbing.
its just driving me nuts. and its embrassing when it does it.

it also had cv joints replaced not long ago. could it be something behind the wheel????

Have you tried a wheel balance/alignment?
is the car lowered at all?

the noise does go away when i go over 80. but comes back when i slow down.......

Next time it does it brake hard and if it stops its your brakes and you need new pads :P
Also check the metal cover thing that goes around the disk and bend it back a little :)
Thats all i can think of right now :)

It sounds like it has something to do with your brakes or wheels!!!
if i was u i would be taking the car somewhere else!! have u taken your car 2 your current mechanic for a spin to show him the noise you are hearing???
if he wont even take the car for a ride to check the noise then take your car to someone who actually cares!!!
cheers

She said she already took it to one, i assume it didn't make the noise when he checked it out hence why nothing was done :(
Is there an AMC member nearby to you? it sounds like something quite simple you don't want to be ripped of for by a mechanic, maybee someone can come and have a looksee and pop off the wheel :)

you wouldn't believe it i have actually taken it to him yeterday morning as it was making the noise. then when i took him for a spin it didn't do it.

lol i hate when that happens, my Te was making a really loud screeching noise which turned out to be the breaks, although everytime i took it to my mechanic, the noise would dissapear, once i left the mechanic it started again,
cars are a pain when they wanna be!!
hope it works out!!

I assume it's the sound of metal scraping on metal(re: opening a rusty gate type noise). Have you actually had the brakes done lately as that'd be my first bet. The brakes have a metal shim in them that makes a squealing noise when the brake pads are getting low. I'd have thought that's what's causing the noise, or you have worn through the pads completely:shock:. Don't laugh, one of my friends did it
Do you know how to check the pads yourself? That's the cheapest waylol.

Yeah and changing pads takes 15 mins tops its easy don't let the mech charge you $180+ thats what i was qouted, just buy a set from supercheap $30 and DIY.

Check the brakes and also get them to check the bearings.. they may need a re-grease.. or even replacing!

I agree, i had a TE and did the same thing, it was the bearings!

if u have a rising rate fuel pressure regulator and it is loose, it may make that noise. Check if you have one, and if so, do up all the bolts tight (except middle one of course) .

Sounds like a problem with the hanbrake.
It was an issue with the early 3rd Gen Magnas, and Mitsubishi brought out a modification to fix it.
Not sure how technically minded you are, apologies if this explaination is too simplified.:D
The rear brakes are discs, like the front, but the handbrake operates differently.
When you take the back wheel off, you see a wheel hub (round thing with studs that the wheel nuts screw onto)
Inside that are 2 half circle things (handbrake shoes). When you pull your handbrake on, these shoes move outward and touch the inside of the wheel hub, locking the back wheels.
The issue is that when the handbrake is released, the shoes don't release enough, and are still touching the inside of the hub, hence the squeaking.
I used to rip on/off the handbrake a little while moving to get rid of the noise. lol
Take it to a Mitsu dealer. Hopefully they won't gouge you too much to fix it.

thats more of a "woosh woosh woosh" noise rather then 2 metals rubbing together and making a screeching noise
i would go with brakes or wheel bearing

thank you so much guys :D
i think being female that the mech kind of takes advantage of that thinking that i won't know the difference. i am taking it to my local mitsubishi dealer and get them to check the brake pads the barrings the handbrakeand the fuel reg thingo.
once again thank you so much. i wil let you know how it goes.

yeah i know the feeling. i actually avoid town all together. and if i really have to go near town i take my other car (pulsar) which is a shame because i get alot of approving looks when i drive the magna down town.

Nah.. If you can drag him along with you.. I reckon that'd let them know that they can't f**k you around!

Can you feel any vibrations etc when the noise is being made? Do you have aftermarket wheels (mags)? Just thinking the people who did the cv work might not have put the hub locator back behind the mag or worse, the apprentice put it behind the rotor or something bazaar.

was gunna say that.. i had a simlar sorta issue in my old RVR..... went for a drive down to brizzy, was on the brakes a bit while there, then all of a sudden it started after takin off at the lights... come home... check pads (could tell it was brakes coz when i slammed them on it went away, albeit only a little) and when i eventually got them off (took hours coz the pistons would on one side)... i saw that the little metal bit was just past the end of the pad.. only like half a mil.. just enuf for it to make a noise... so yeh.. check the pads

I'll tag along, hey maybee i can see whats wrong without even taking it anywhere :) but if you really want to go to your local mitsu dealer go to Bedsers in South Tweed or their partners in Murwillumbah they won't **** you around...
