i own a '96 TE magna, with no mods, and the last time i took it for service the mechanic found some odd brake wear.
the right rear brake pads had worn right down to the limit, while all other pads were wearing as per normal. the mechanic bled the fluid and checked the calipers but every thing appeared normal. this was the first instance of this happening. i was wondereing if anyone had a simillar problem or had any suggestions.
thanks

how long since they were done and who did it?
Possible they were forgotten last time. I changed brakes not long ago and after i'd packed up I realised I still had one wheel to go :bowrofl:
Also, welcome to AMC dude.

If the pads is worn down evenly on both sides, could be a sticky piston
and/or the rubber dust seal is past use-by.
If its worn down on one side only could be sticky sliding pins.
Could be worth rebuilding the calipers with new seals etc.
How's the runout on the discs? A warped disc can wear your pads down faster.

It might be that the other 3 wern't working. Sticky callipers are usually easy to spot as you have huge heat damage to the rotor.
Keep an eye on them now, as the pistons have all be reset and its had a good bleed. In 6 months if your problem pads are wearing faster then you should get it looked at.

i get my car serviced regularly by a mechanic that my whole family have used for years so i have no worries that he botched the job. As for having to rebuild the caliper, or just get hold of a new one, how much do you think that would set me back.
thanks for the advice, and the welcome.
cheers

Rebuild kits for floating callipers are about $20 bucks at the most, per corner. Labour would be around about an hour per corner probably.
Does the car pull to one side when you brake?

Rebuild kit with all new seals and retainer ring was about $16ish
when I asked at Repco a few weeks ago... probably same $ for F or R
but I forgot to specify. Am suspecting they quoted me for F ones
when I was really thinking of rebuilding a R caliper where the seal had a little tear.
... haven't gotten around to doing it  'cos got too busy elsewhere.
Its a simple job but pretty fiddly & messy, plus you'll need to bleed brakes.
Brake shops offer reconditioned caliper swapover for ~$100 per corner,
best to do in pairs to be equal.

thanks for the info
and the car does pull to one side slightly (to the side that the brakes were worn down on) but mainly when on light throttle application or just cruizing. the stranger thing is that it's intermittent, some days it'll do it and others it wont.
cheers

You could quite possibly have a slightly loose king pin/CV nut.
