Hi there all in Magna land,

My KH has the dreaded rough idle problem. Took to a friend who plugged into a scanner to check the base idle and we found the that oxygen sensor was not responding. Traced it back to the connector and found that it was not connected!!!! Shouldn't this have set off the check engine light???. Anyway, it seemed to improve idle for small period and then back to rough idle.

Anyway, as a precaution, I have got a second hand oxy sensor off a TL series which I am planning to install tommorrow in case mine is not working properly. I have some questions if you could possibly help with:

Any tricks in replacing an oxy sensor?
Would the TL one work on my KH?
Anyone know how much a new one is and does anyone have a unit for sale?
Would a faulty Oxy sensor cause the rough idle problems and also exhaust smells i am experiencing?

Would appreciate your advice.

Thanks
Louis K

I know with the second gens they did turn the check engine light on for all models before '93 but after '93 they changed it so that the light didn't come on with an oxy sensor faul. I've got no idea why they'd do that but they did. I assume then that mitsu had it so that the oxy sensor circuit wouldn't turn on the check engine light for the third gens as well.

I think that the oxy sensors are the same between the 3 and the 3.5's, if you got it from the same engine as yours you'll be fine.

I'm not too sure that it'll fix your idle, as I'm not sure if the ecu enters closed loop mode in idle. I guess you'll soon see. lol
