Well, saturday i decided to change my rocket cover gasket and sparkplug seals with the help from Matt (Sports). It was fairly straight forward, however the car hasn't been running well since. Its alot more noisier now (louder grinding noise) above 3000RPM and the rear rocker cover is leaking engine oil big time.

When i drive gently (not rev above 3000RPM) its seems to be ok and no oil is leaking. I have used some gasket seal paste that Matt gave me, and its no longer leaking from there anymore, but its coming out from other spot now, which i cannot see... All i can see is its dripping oil onto the exhaust pipe under the engine (that meshy metal pipe thing lol).

Has anyone had these problems before by just changing those things?

I was going to call the mobile motor mechanics today, but none of them answered the phones.. even thought they say 7-days a week on the yellow pages. Suss c@nts...

Anyways, will have to call them tomorrow.. :(

Just wanted to share my experience... :)

Again Matt, thanks for your help mate. I really appreciate it. Hope the bundy's went down well. ;) If you ever need some help, let me know. Shame my car turned out that way, but its one of those things.

I am pretty sure i haven't over-tightened. I dont have a torque wrench, but i turned it that much that i couldn't turn any further with a screwdriver type tool... so it should be ok. I used the gasket seal paste about 75% around it... I dunno. I will let them figure it out tomorrow...

Will keep you all informed

mmm just wondering if u knew that once its done ur not supposed to take it over 3000rpm for 300klm and then also after 300klms u need to re-torqure the bolts. u need a torqure wrench for this job or u will get the problems ur having. just wondering if u knew there was an order to tighten them up (there is). and when u removed the rocker cover did u label all the bolts to make sure they went back into the same hole they came out of?

I think you have got your head gasket and rocker cover gasket mixed up.. Good chance the rocker cover gasket may have sliped when you were putting the cover back on.

i was under the impression that was pretty much standard procedure for any engine gasket on a alloy engine. anyways hope u get it sorted. might just have to take the rocker cover off and re-clean all mating sufaces and gasket and start again but try rtv red sealant instead. seems to work well on my tp yea i know its not the same generation but the princibles should still apply yeh?

Well, the screws were all the same, so i dont see how that makes any difference. I did tighten them diagonally opposite eachother. I also used sealant on the gasket.

Well, its strange. it doesn't seem to leak oil when driving gently. I will ask a mechanic today and see what he thinks when he goes over it.

Thanks for the input guys

It does sound like its slipped off the mating surface. Undo it and clean it up and use some gasket goo to hold it in to the rocker cover as you spin it over.

sounds like it could be your PCV valve. its not releasing pressure in the rocker cover so its finding another way of getting out.

btw, im not the matt that bodgied up his car. lol

Well, turned out the rocker cover was cracked...

One of the screw holes was cracked around the edge, which caused the oil to get through.. Had to get a new rocker cover and another gasket (as the new gasket was deformed from the old cover) and it seems to be working ok. I have not reved it over 3000rpm yet, just in case. I need to replace the front cover also soon, as the rocker arms are slightlt touching the cover, and the cover is bend also... Something i will attempt myself in the next few weeks.

As promised, here are a couple pics of the old rocker cover

Pic1. are you can see the area where the screw hole is, is all bend outwards due to over tightening the screw... that's where it leaked oil out of...

Pic2. Full View of all the bends in it

Pic3. This hole was cracked. The screw digged itself in so far, that i could no longer loosen it as the socket couldn't get a good hold of it anymore.. The wall of the rocker cover was in the way.

Lesson learned... :(

I have to replace my front cover also...its also leaking on the back.. i must have tightened it a little too much and its bend hardcore... not to mention the cover sits too low now and the lifter arms actually knock against it slightly :(
