The ticking noising is probably the tappets, you need to get that adjusted! The rattle is common with the Astron engines (2.6's), and is caused by the counter-balance/timing chains. I suggest you get Penrite HPR30 oil and Morey's Oil stabiliser, and mix it at a 25 percent oil stabiliser to oil. Now this won't stop the noises, no oil will, but it should reduce it enough to be able to sell it and have enough time for the person not to be too pissed off with selling a car with a problem that costs a reasonable amount in labour.

My sister has a TS 2.6 that was noisy as all hell and blew heaps of blue smoke, I bought some crappy $10 Repco 20/50 oil, some Lucas Heavy Duty Oil Stabiliser, Nulon Stop Smoke & Wynns Engine Oil Stop Leak. Crammed all this crap into the crankcase and voila No Rattle...No Smoke whatsoever, even after idling for 1 minute when warm and then giving it a bootful.
Cost about $60 all up including filter.
as mentioned earlier, i higly recommend Penrite HPR30 after being put onto it by madmagna.

Yep, as thick as you can find cheaply. The penzoil make a similar 30w60 oil, which will quieten down the donk a little.
PS: you cant adjust the tappets, they are hydrolic.
