Hi all,

I am thinking of selling my VYI SV8 and maybe getting a VRX manga, im not 100% sure of the model, but probably a 03 model or around there, i would just like to know how they drive as i have driven my mates ralliart and it was nice.
I have a few Qs aswell
Are the seats similar to the ralliart? they look quite supportive!
how many Kms are people getting from the tank?(it has to be better than the LS1!!).. maunal not auto
How well do they handle?
Is the engine anywhere near as responsive as the ralliart?

Thanks
James

There is stuff all between VRX and ralliart.. 17kw at the engine.. Drive very similar.. Ralliart has slightly better suspension but VRX aint bad.. Im getting between 5-600kms out of a tank of my manual 02 VRX..

03 it TJ in the square shape or TL in the roundish shape.. Change over was April 03.. June 03 they started on TL

Good luck with it..:)

that mate must be a nice guy.

but yeah if you dont get 500ks from a tank I would be very shocked. i get a min of like 550km thats on 13L/100kms, but it would normly be like 11.3L/100kms(630kms per tank)

I use to own a VX SS 6 speed and now have a 2002 Magna VRX manual, must say the magna is a better car in so many ways (the car is well built, unlike the commodore)
My fuel consumption is around 11 l/100 avg (driven hard) , the SS was avg 17 l/100 avg.
Anyways yeah you wont regret the move, just make sure you get a manual

I must say teh VRX seems to be hard to find.
I drove a ralliart, and its nice smooth and has some power, but i will miss the 8 as well its a 8 and has heaps of power :P
But its for the best :D
Now just need to find one...

Manual definitely not necessary, the tiptronic is sooooooooo good. Magnas manual tranny only rated as average, while the 5spd tippy is rated one of the best. Try before you buy.

Diven both, bought the tippy. 100,000km later still rate it a great gearbox.

The tiptronic is a great gearbox, no questions. Sometimes I wish my car was auto so I could just cruise along... Then I wake up and realise how good a manual is.

Manual all the way for fun factor. Auto for lazy cruising.

i reckon you should go for whatever you feel like at the time.... i have found that i get better economy driving auto's i also have gotten less (none) tickets in auto's.... i have also not broken any auto boxes due to flogging it.... im not putting down manuals.... love them, but i find i drive like a maniac... and am in race mode.. where as in autos i cruise around and nail it here and there... wish you could have 5spd auto tippy with clutch...

ps... as you'd know... manual rwd's are much better than manual fwd's if you like to play:)

The tiptronic is a woeful gearbox, unless youre a grandpa driver.

Get a manual.

If you like to drive your car hard and use the gears, a tiptronic or auto is not for you as you can expect frequent trans oil cooking.

The hotter they get the more sluggish they get, they also start to slip in between gears. Theres a few on this forum who have been in my car when it was happening. (Choonga who was screaming like a girl at the time)

As for v8 = power.. heh that seems to be a common misconception of most v8 drivers.

Personally, if i were you. Id aim for the Ralliart as it has better seats, engine and brakes. The bodykit can look good if you remove the boyracer wing.

The most fuel consumption I ever got with my VRX Tiptronic was around 18l/100 and that was going hard along the Great Ocean Road.

as if, the wing makes it go faster anyone would know that. as for 18l/100 holy cow, i never got mine above 13.

I have to say while i dont dissagree with this quote, the V8 certainly does have more power than the magna, in stock form anyways, i used to think my mates ralliart through me back in the passenger seat until he took me for a drive in my car........

Whereas the old 5L no worries there about the magna being faster.

OH and manual all the way

Most Auto tests done on the ralliart magna bagged the manual version for massive torque steer etc, even with the lsd. Most praised the auto though, with the tcl sorting out wheelspin/torque steer problems. Im not saying that the manual is a bad thing in a magna, its just that it doesnt have the shift quality of a good manual (most honda, toyota, bmw gearboxes), and the auto works well with it being a large fwd car.

You'll find they said the auto more drivable for the street but not as fun as the manual

I gave a tippy VRX a good thrashing last night, went hard, but not as hard or fun as a manual

Actually said the manual ralliart was out of control most of the time, needing nearly two lanes under heavy acceleration due to massive torque steer.:bowrofl:

I've collected just about every review of the Ralliart (yeah, I probably need to get out more), and only one review that I've found by AutoWeb ever bagged the manual. In fact most, including Wheels Magazine, and the various News Corp motoring writers (main daily papers) sang its praises.

I can vouch that with the LSD (it's torque sensing, not viscous speed sensing like many others) and a decent set of tyres (the original P6000s were not great) there is virtually no torque steer.

Having had a Tippy Sports previously for a couple of years, the manual Ralliart is a revelation. I would never go back to slush boxes.
