Ok, guys, a little help here....
I can't for the life of me figure out what the hell this noise is! here's the symptoms:
At a slow speed there is this "eeeeek...eeeeek....eeeeek" kinda like a squeek/whistle noise then then when i speed up it gets faster till it becomes a noise that can't be heard at all over the sound system and the exhaust (oh yeah!), there is no difference to brakes, acceleration and the wheels aren't hitting the guard. So im lost, is it something in the pads? lol but i can't figure out wtf it actually is, it bugs the **** outta me when im not playing music and rolling in neutral.
Any help is gonna be much appriciated.
Cheers,
Adz

Could be the fan belt?

Maybe a bit of **** on the brake pads, maybe a wheel bearing.
To be safe I'd get a mechanic you trust to have a listen. They dont usually charge to listen.
If you dont have a mech you trust take it to a couple and see if they give the same diagnosis.:D

My TR had the exact same noise for about 20,000 kms and was still going strong when i sold her. It was wierd because it wouldn't always happen.

now does this noise sound like an old door creeking when being closed. and does it happen for example when u slowly pull into a car park ? its sound like the noise i was getting. thought it might have been the power steering , but before looking at that i had got 2 suspenion and steering kits off ebay. when i put the kits on the noise stopped . the kits where new tie rod ends and lower ball joints ( ball joints were the main prob i think) and new control arm bushes , so have a look ay ur ball joints and tie rods maybe.

yeah, cheers guys, ill take her down to my mech on saturday n figure it all out, i dont think its a steering problem coz as was said it makes a noise like a creeky old door being closed when im going straight, and its not an engine thing i juz figured out coz the noise isnt there at all when i lifted the hood and had it on idle...so i dunno, ill figure it out on the weekend!:D ive got my money on **** on the brake pads...**sarcastically** but hey, if its the suspension or axel struts, i might juz HAVE to get her lowered an inch or 3 to solve the probelm. lol

Whatever the problem is, i wouldn't be too worried about it. Like i said my car was doing it for ages and the noise didn't get worse/louder.

can u tell where it comes from; the front left, front right, rear left, rear right

if u can find that its coming from one of these in particualr i'd say its somethin to do with the brakes etc...BUT if its comin from all of them, or just the front it might be something completely different, no idea what, i cant concentrate atm.

does the eek's speed up with rpm?? or road speed... no fan belts theyre electric but could be the alternator belt or a/c etc...

the one i have definatly comes from either side of the car, definatly not the engine.

How are your belt tensions?

Wouldn't do any harm to tighten slightly and see if that helps.

My noise would be quicker with road speed, but above 40 it would dissappear. It definitely sounded like it was coming from the front somewhere and it was definitely something to do with the wheels.

...same, except i dont think (i hope not) that its anything to do with the engine....ill try tightening the belts as well, but i had that done when i cleared out the engine bay.

I agree with Rob_D, a slipping alternater belt is also a suspect.
Wish I could hear the noise myself, that would make it easier.:D

My old TP had similar symptoms for a few months - suddenly it got very loud and I took it straight to a mechanic - he took a while to work out where the noise was coming from [there's loads of spinning things down there].

Anyway he worked it out and replaced harmonic balancer [$200 parts and labor] - the old one had suffered from dried/perished rubber and was vibrating/wobbling so much it had ground away a big groove in the side of the engine. I was very close to detonation [the pully was razor sharp from the grinding]

hope that helps,

richard.

mine does it exactly what you say its the discs they need to be machined. but check your belts as well. i know cause i had a service and they wanted to do this to stop the noise but i couldnt afford it so i still got squeeks:cry:
