Hey all,
Needless too say im currently looking for a magna/verada.
Is it worth getting 3.5L version over 3.0? (i assume so)
Manuals look to be rare as hens teeth... (whats tiptronic like)
I am thinking in a performance/cruising perspective i guess, so tiptronic seems an uber alternative too manual.
Any models i should steer away from?
Also 1 last question, which models come with power windows?
Cheers
Jake

Welcome!
Here's a thread on the 3.0 v 3.5

As for transmission, personal preference. I prefer the performance edge and don't care about having to change gears while in traffic. If you're after a Verada, I don't think they came in manual form.

i dont have to think, i KNOW Verada's dont come in a manual! and if you found one (rarer then a elephant without a trunk) then it would of been a custom conversion!
oh, and welcome my world,

Man..
Manual Conversion + Verada = HELL YEAH!
Full pimpin styles with the ability to take heaps more power then the autos!
I'd still rather an auto GTV.. :P

Hyperthetically - Whats stopping someone with an Automatic Transmission putting the top selector part of the Sports in there and hopefully it will connect up to the existing loom?
Does the sports actually have a better/different gearbox? I would have thought it would be the same, just when you hit the knob up it tells the computer to change up a gear, and likewise with down.
Auto is Ghey

A regular Auto is boring and sluggish. The triptronic is a little more refined and a good mix inbetween.
Manual is the way to go if you want the performance tyre shredding factor... Either way its all good :D

I was thinking the same thing so I investigated it. While the transmissions are identical the ECU is different. The pin assignments are different between the 2 ECU's eg pin 22 on a sports may be up shift and on the standard may be the oxygen sensor input. Unlike pre ECU cars the wiring differs greatly between Auto , Sports and Manual.
But anything is possible if you throw enough money at it.
Paddle shifts on a sports would be releativly simple.
Manuals are the way to go for perfomance, however I find the auto in my TH to be very clever and tight
I can never understand where people get the idea of them being sluggish, yeah there a little slower, but sluggish? tell that to the V8 fairlane I blew away the other day ,his respose he gave me the finger.
As for electric windows that varies across models.

Damn. This proberbly increases mitsubishis productions costs. Why don't they use the same components though all models :(

It's all in the training (the learning feature) I think. You drive the first few 000 k's like a pussy - it thinks you're a pussy driver all of the time
Paddle shiftes = Relatively easy! I want to do that to Guru's sports (Pleeeaaase!)

I was lucky enough back in Mid 1996 ( im starting to show my age) to be told by my wife that that her current company Magna Wagon was being replaced by a new Magna. Only to be dissapointed to learn it was a 4cyl (the accountant was too tight to spend an extra $750 on a V6. Yes you heard right the price diff back then was a measely $750 dollars). Well the dissapointment didnt last long. Even in 4cyl form, this car was awesome and the best family car I had ever driven. Made falcons and dunneydores feel cheap and unrefined. Well eventually we moved overseas and lost the company car. On returning back to australia and having to buy a family car out of our own pocket. The Magna was the only choice. Got a second hand TE V6 Man only 2 years old and 150000km. Felt like a new car and got it for a great price. The cars now done 130000km faultlesly. I can see myself keeping it for many years to come. Whenever I hear people bag the cuurent gen Magna, They are usually ignorant and dont know what they are talking about. But back to the whole point of this topic, in 95 % of my driving I really cant pick the performance gap between the auto 4cyl and my Man V6. Its ony under hard acceleration, steep hills, overtaking and 4 or 5 aboard. But in day to day trips the car is just cruising along effortlessly. My ony criticism with the manual is the gear change, Its not bad but it doesnt compare to the slick precise gear selector in my Honda civic, very minor point though. Good luck in your choice.

Nice car, 15.8 from an auto, that's what the stock XC\XD 351 4 speed manual could do back in 78\80 that's impressive, they were considered muscle cars, it sounds almost stock to, just a few mods, is yours a TH? I think even standard they are around the 16.2\16.3 mark with the auto which is good, it's that 300+nm that does it I think, even the auto 3.0 isn't too bad once moving. P.S. Nice German shepherd lying in front of your TH, I had one once, best dog money can buy.
