Yeh so my car just shat itself on west coast highyway in peak hour traffic, i had to get towed 15k home:doubt:
The engine was idling around 100-200rpm then cutting out at the lights, tried to pull away, no power, got to 15kph thennoticed the noise the engine was making, putt putt clack clak, pulled over popped bonnet, engine is rocking backwards and forwards, making horrible noises, sounds like theres stuff smashing together in there
Got towed home, the car is so heavy with no power steering
Any ideas?

Drain the oil and see what comes out with it.
Then probably lift the heads and drop the sump and see what you find.

mmmm sounds pretty bad. your having some bad luck with your car lately.
dont know if this will hlep but i was doin interior lighting and it shorted and belw a lot of fuses. result was car stalled on start up unless i had my foot on the accelerator and i kinda went into limp mode. did you do any electrical thing before that?

Your timing belt tensioner may have failed. When it went on my mum's 97 KE, it was exactly as you've just described it.

prime suspect a two inch long bolt, last seen blocking resonator holes on air intake
Well it was there before and it isnt now, we cant see it sitting round the valves, would it have fit through??????
Am waiting for a mates dad to come round and help me take the heads off to have a looksie
Timing belt is fine, rockers all fine, oil in it, albeit a bit low.

check simple things first, like compression, timing, vacuum, ignitor, dissy, coil etc etc.
it sounds like its got a severe intermitant missfire to me.

its got everything, the engine runs but theres a clacking/ crunching
coming from the middle of the engine ( as in middle of the v formed by cylinders)

That's where the camshaft would be in a pushrod V8. or V6... no idea.
