How much would you expect to pay to get this done? The mysterious rubbing on my car has been discovered to be the rubber on the tyres rubbing on the fibreglass of the wheel arches. Whenever I put the car into a corner, or have a couple people in the back and go over a bump it'd always rub. I got quoted $100 per side, so $200 to roll the guards in or chop em out or whatever and then retro fit the wheel arches back to the guards.

Does this sound like a decent price?

Yeah, $45-$55 per arch is about about standard for this proceedure. Any aftermarket wheel place will normally be able to do it.

$45-$55? I'm being charged $100 per side. But there's some custom work there, and then to retro fit the arches back into place...

You sure they didn't quote to do all 4 wheels?? $100 per side, or $100 per corner?

Hmmm, I was pretty sure he said $100 each side for the rear only (don't need the front done)

Maybe thats about right for the work they are doing if it isn't a straight forward job, but it wouldn't hurt to get a few other quotes.

I'm only going off what I read recently on another S.E Qld based car forum, and I distinctly remember reading that most places will "roll guards" for approximatley $50 per corner.

having the wheel flares it may be harder, as the are plastic so thay need to be cut, mine rub on the flares but not on the gards (the bit the gets rolled) so even if i was to roll my gards they would still rub. although Disciple your car may be lower than mine but stick you hand under, i can feel on the plastic gards where mine have been scraped, and its seems to be a few cm between the plastic ones and the gards of the car.

The problem is the flare of the wheel arch only sticks out about 5mm more than the actual guard. So in order to roll them properly and eliminate the scrubbing, the actual guard itself needs to be rolled or modified and so does the actual wheel flare/arch. The arch is plastic, you're right, so it requires a fair bit of skill and time to be able to modify it properly so that everything fits properly and looks like it's supposed to. I guess in the end I'm getting a pretty good price considering all the stuffing around that needs to be done.

If only it were that easy. I actually thought about that until I realised I'd have to retro fit the wheel flares/arches back on somehow. This way if I'm not happy with it I can take it back, and if anything goes wrong I can also take it back.

$55 i was quoted each corner. but if they have to modify it so that the arch fits then maybe $100 sounds alright

Do you need to to get your panel repainted or anything after or is it just a straight roll and fit rims back on? Cause with the rims I want to get I might have to get the fronts rolled a bit...

From what I've seen and after having a lot of thought and talking about it, it doesn't look like anything will need to be repainted. The inside of the actual cars' flares "roll" back under the body, but with flares it's a bit harder because they need to be fitted to the post rolled body.

Nothing should have to be repainted if they do it properly !

they Should heat the section before they start, so the paint doesnt crack, i've seen it done many times...

A panelbeater told me it won't work on my car because of the splashguards.

Did a Google search and this guy http://www.kustomink.com.au/lowdown.html

does mobile guard rolling in Melbourne.

$140.00 a pair.

Left my number so I'll see what he says. :D
