hey guys..

i hear that the 380's dont have a pre out on the vrx.. so u can run filters through the rear speakers to run an amp.. but i hear you get engine noise and it can sound like crap...

i spoke to jb hifi ...
this is what they told me to look at

http://www.mobileaudiocontrol.com/product.asp?Product_Id=222456&d_Id=17612&l1=17612&l2=

anyone have any experience with these?

so i can then connect up to 3 amps!!! they are about $300 bucks

Im also interested in keeping my stock h/u and amping the speakers. Can anyone shed more light on this? Is a device like this required?

hey guys, i have a few aerpro line out convertors lying around somewhere if your interested. They take the stock speaker outs from your deck, and turn them into RCA's. They wont give you the clarity of the direct RCA's, but will give you the next best thing. Usually valued at $20 - $30 i think (aerpro make them, as do a few other companies. they called line out convertors). I'll sell em to anyone who wants em for $5 plus postage, which i think is fair for a new product.

Alternatively, some amplifiers support direct speaker line in, so theres another option.

Cheers,
Shaun.

Sounds like a pretty sweet deal...

Anyone who wants to keep their stock headunit knows they won't be able to get awesome sound from it. but for $5 you can't go wrong. (if you are desperate to keep it stock)

Even with a stock headunit, try and invest as much into your speakers as possible, as this is where you will see the most benefit.

(But still a decent headunit would be next on my list)

Wow, you guys rock. PM sent narkus.

Oh and out of curiousity. I'm amping all four speakers in my setup, does this mean I need multiple line out converters?

Cheers.

Look here -> http://www.caraudioaustralia.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=57673

Recommended as the best hi-lo converter on the market by Car Audio Australia.

I used my stock h/u with my amps which actually had high level input. Had unacceptable engine noise and sound quality was not up to par. Upgraded to an aftermarket h/u - best decision I ever made despite the fact I didn't really want to do it. Now I have a full range equalizer rather than just bass/treble, and complete control over sub volume etc. So just keep that in mind. In regards to engine noise and sound quality etc however, amps with built in high level inputs aren't known to be the best...which I wouldn't be surprised about with my amp.

is it even possible to put in an aftermarket deck in a 380?

Yeah probably possible only on the base model which has the double-DIN unit - all the others have the integrated design and would turn out to be quite labourious to try and fiddle with them.

Yeah... soother said he has a VRX... which have the integrated dash. So aftermarket HU isn't in the cards.

Just out of curiosity... does anyone know if the SX has the integrated dash?

Ahhhh fair enough, i've only seen the interior of a vrx and not the base model.

Off memory the SX does have an intergrated dash. What about the 380's sat nav, that would make a good source unit.

hmmm... first of all y would any one want to touch the factory streo system on the 380's (VRX) its pretty dam good as it is.... at least i think soo... thumping bass and really clear too...

As for upgrade... i belive yes you can upgrade your factory system.. but as far as i know only ALPINE (who else :D ) offers this upgrade... they can change the system with out altering the dash.... they are always advertising in the wheels mag.. they have an add on page 137 August issue for any one that is interested...

How 'bout just an equaliser tho...
I'd like more control over the bass.

Well the one you originally posted is still just a line out converter... just a very expensive one.

Maybe you just contact VDO or Siemens (I think one of them is the supplier of the intergrated dash in the 380's) and ask them who makes/supplies the headunit. Then you'd be able to find out if there are other options available to you.

Who the hell designs an integrated HU in the dash, without RCA's! :doubt:

Mitsubishi, and pretty sure the new ford xr's are integrated as well.
