This seems to have been over looked by some, so there is a link to it.http://www.openecu.org/index.php?title=EcuFlash

Yes the magnas have an OBDII otherwise they would not have been able to sell them in california. Here's a site on OBDII http://www.obdii.com/

I'm not sure how many times the magna chips would be able to be reflashed though. It may be possible though to replace the original chip with an identical EPROM chip and flash it with the original software though.

I know this is a long shot, but does anyone know of the transmission control unit on the autos can be played with using the OBDII.

If you look at the site you can buy it from them. Think it costs 90bucks aussie. Not sure if it will work on our models. Another thing to consider is if you write back to your ecu and it fails half way through the burn you have pretty much screwed it. Forget about starting your car again. Must be careful. On a side note ls1edit is the same.
If it does work its definetly worth looking into too.

when i get my conversion parts i'll try this out and eveyone will know then wont they. theres no use in saying "this sorta stuff never works" or "OMG THIS IS THE GIFT FROM GOD WE"VE ALL BEEN WAITING FOR" ppl on this forum are good at speculating wether somethings good or bad without even useing it. so untill we see some kinda results (either from me or someone else) lets just keep the thread clean and no bashing the software or methods used

No ones bashing the thread but there is always the possibility of frying an eprom during a burn. Just need to be cautious and know that this is a possibility. Me i used to use HPTuners software when i had my SS. Didnt fry one it had fail safes built into it. Using any type of tuning software isn't for the faint hearted. Takes practice and time to learn the software and what you are changing. If your willing to learn go for it i say. Definetly worth learning if you have the time and patience.

The TH ECU is reflashable and as far as I know it's the only one.

soooo...

My TH ECU could be reflashed and no one would be any wiser! :P

Would this achieve the same thing as getting an after market ECU (eg Haltech or something)?
Prolly would be harder & expensive as I have never heard of anyone flashing a factory Magna ECU...

i spoke to the chaps (Jason at mynes performance) in the USA, and also to memners of this forum

the chip CAN be reflashed using the free software . .. . (TJ series - see previous posts for chip no's)

the data link cable is circa us90 .. . . .

the software looks very good - and enables both ign and fuel maps to be altered, as well as rpm, speed, warm up, etc etc etc......

a bit easier than trying a 3.8 bosch ecu engine , ,, , and prob a bit cheaper as well

I have spoke to a racer who has used this system and it seems to work well. He is driving an EVO 6.

I have used rom edit for EVO 1's and 2's, but thats a different process.

so what ur saying is the TJ ecu is the only one that can be reflashed?

i was pretty sure it was only the TH ecu ... as ..there are already reflashed TH ecu's getting around the place,

i had a mate trying to chase down a TH ecu for the soul purpose of it getting reflshed by someone as no other ecu's could be re flashed.

try a search of the forum and ull find alot of interesting info in regards to this

if this does work on magna ecu's it would be a nice find however but im skeptical

why not just send an email to the software engineer?

wrexed03

Ok sent a pm to the person who does the software for it. The response i recieved is as follows.
"someone just needs to get ahold of the cable and software and try it. like i said originally, it will likely "just work". alternatively, you can send me an ECU and I can try it.

colby

p.s. - please send me email in the future - PMs are very difficult to track my responses to. "
