Help needed guys. Which Magnas and Veradas were factory supplied to run on LPG.
I assume they were DUAL FUEL (LPG and petrol). Do you need to start them on petrol and then switch to LPG? Where is the LPG tank located and how much boot space does it take up? Would love input from owners and general comments on how happy they are with the LPG aspect. Also keen to learn which Magnas and Veradas can be converted to LPG, without problems, such as valves. Any other potential problems? I am mainly interested in sedans, but if necessary might have to go the wagon way.

Dont have an answer for your question. But if you can hold off for a little while Howard goverment may be providing some incentives for people to switch to LPG see the following link. http://www.news.com.au/story/0,23599,20068348-421,00.html

there were no set models the lpg were fitted to.when we were builing them we were doing about 50 a day.the way to tell if its a lpg engine is to check the top of the head, there is a tab there which is stamped lpg.

I'd love to know what the difference is between the LPG engine, and the non-LPG engine.
My 2003 KJ Verada is non-LPG, but what does this mean?

Hoping it goes through got quoted just over 2k to convert that will be 1k less which i can handle as many others. At the end of the day if the give out 1k for a conversion they will take it back from some other source.

i think the difference is the valve seals. i think that they are harder in a LPG beause its a dry fuel were normal ULP is wet(duh....). i have heard stories of people converting thier cars over to LPG(not magnas mind you) and having to replace the seals in the engine every second service. i have also heard that it can only be tuned to either petrol or LPG, not both

There are plenty of stories out there, most of them not true. Just do it. I just smile to myself every time I fill up

im looking into a liquid delivery system for LPG and not the normal way of gas injected... making the seals still wet.

There seem to be a $2000 incentive for conversion. Can someone tell me if it is possible to disconnect petrol and have it purely run on LPG using the existing petrol tank? I heard the fuel efficiency for purposely LPG tuned is the same as petrol. My car is a 2000 TJ. Thanks

I have a 1999 TH Magna Sports and when the car was bought new the buyers got told by the dealership that the car CAN NOT (in capital letters) be converted to gas. dunno if the dealership was right or if you have to get a shonky conversion but i'm staying with petrol.

Funny that I have seen a 1st gen Magna on Gas and a member here with a TL has also done it. It will be weird TH cant be done.

Well theres a dozen threads on lpg at the moment, and now that ive been admin-accepted, id like to post a few q's.

My 2003 AWD TJ is getting 13.8l/100k at the moment, probably because ive just realised that ive gone back to my "accelerate till you need to brake" driving, not allowing the car to drift along, which it does quite nicely. I bought it 2 months ago for 15k, done 67k. Very happy :)

Anyway, Id like a bit of advice on the lpg conversion from someone who may have had it done in a similar model. Form what ive read on here so far:
-May need a lpg-compatible engine or replacement valves
-Cant do lpg-only, have to go dual-fuel
-Will lose most of the boot space.

Now i heard that mitsi can get the engine 'lpg-ready' for $150 which im assuming means changing the valves.
Can someone confirm the dual-fuel point? Or should i talk to a lpg-store?
And ill be getting a towball put on soon, so the boot space impact will be negligible.

Is it worth doing mods such as the air-intake, filters, exhaust on a lpg vehicle? Will this bring the car above a stock petrol car, or bring it back closer to a petrol car, given that most of the responses seem to dictate a loss in power on lpg?

Cheers for the great site and wiki guys! Helped me install my deck.

Valves would cost way more that that.. Heads would have to come off so that get expensive.. Maybe something to do with a gasket for LPG i heard..:)

Third-hand news, they heard it from channel 10 news tonight, so dunno. Not much on the news sites yet.

But id like to know whether its worth getting done. They are saying that the 2k federal rebate is in addition to the 1k WA state rebate that is currently on offer over here, so alot of conversions would be close to free. Expecting a long waiting list though :P
