you can grab new bumpers for $130ish. Painting may be around 200-300.

If you made a claim with your insurance you'd likley have to pay the excess, plus the chances of an increase in premium, and have to declare that you made a claim on future policies.

imo repair it outside of insurance.

edit* ozeparts.com.au for the bumper is the best i can find.

If you can find one the same colour 2nd hand it'll be alot cheaper, maybe cost you about $100. White's a pretty common colour so it shouldn't be TOO hard.

when my front end got dammaged it costed me all up 800 in excess (or else it woulda been 2.5k) from this quote here a new front bar = $380 and paint = $300 but thats through a smash repair place on the gold coast (they did do a really good job)

edit: i also have a 98 TF (silver colour though)

a tree jumped out in front of my car a few years ago resulting in a dented front bumper. New bumper from ozeparts was $140, got it painted white for $150 IIRC. Fitted myself, not too hard, just lots of bolts and screws!

Tell me about it. I have had my car for 5 and a half years now, and not done any damage to it personally, but...

When I was in America in 2002 my mum borrowed it and mangeled the front left guard. I have been rear-ended twice, I had a truck roll over behind me and the bobcat it was carrying land on my boot (that was a scary day), the paint is faded to poop because I can't get undercover parking at work and I have had 3 car covers stolen, and with these "water Restrictions" in place in brissy at the moment it hasn't been washed for about a year. Then the last straw, my partner reversed out of the driveway and hit the side fence putting a deep gouge and dent in the rear left pillar.

I have given up trying to keep it straight and looking good now, I just don't care anymore.

Count yourself lucky that it wasn't too bad. My wife's Astra was parked out the front of my parents place overnight (about 2 years ago) and was the victim of a hit-n-run. $5000 damage, and the loss of her 60% No Claim Bonus.

Some people are just inconsiderate.

I bought a genuine KJ front bar from Mitsubishi at mates rates for about $120-140 for memory.

Then you have to get it painted and fitted which may be another 200-300 so yeah, if it is just cosmetic damage then you can probably do it cheaper on your own but if it has a decent crunch then depending on the damage behind the bumper it might be worth going insurance.

Somebody reversed into my TH nose too, less than a week after I got it in May.
Didn't look as if she was gunna leave a note either... but unfortunately for the biatch
I was feeding the parking meter standing right next to my car.

Got a couple of quotes... mine's just bumper cover damage, underneath ok.

Patch (heatgun?) & paint = $340 & 350 +gst from 2 places.

Another place quoted me a new cover $150 + $250 paint +gst.

been watching some sad news on the TV lately... hit and runs involving a kid and then a man. two different incidents. both were fatal. Apparently the guy who was hit could have been saved if the ambos were called.

I guess if people can hit a human bieng and leave them for dead ...... whats a bumper to them? Still pissed about forking out 450$ for my excess but when you hear stories like above...... it is insignificant.

anyways the bumpers been broken properly...theres a tear about 24 inches long in it so not something thats going to pop out. I called around but couldnt find a white bumper which would save me alot of money on paint.I got three quotes for the bumper ranging from 440$ to 850$ so I guess I rather go insurance. I was offered rating 1 for life...hopefully no raised premiums.
