Alrighty, I've seen this floating around ebay before so I thought I'd pass on the low-down of these 'power' mods as far as I can gather from mechanics and some simple electronics.

Some ebay persons are selling these +20HP Modules for around 10 dollars total, now thats not bad to get an extra 20hp but the reality is the part itself is worth about 50 cents at jaycar.

The part in question is part number "3W4K7J" its a white block with two pins. The idea is you put this into your Inlet Air Temp sensor or Engine coolant temp sensor and it lies to your onboard systems into thinking that the incoming air is cold like when you first fire up your car.

So it thinks the incoming air is cold and 'adjusts' your fuel/air mix.

Great, extra power slightly more fuel use but higher power. Except that now your engine runs cooler and risks not burning all the fuel and building up layers of filth inside your engine. Eventually causing damage.. so I'm told.

Now I'm not an extremely knowledgable person when it comes to cars and their onboard systems. But for a dollar in the short term sounds great. Except I'd want a way to shut it off and allow it to return to the normal sensor.

Perhaps a relay with both attatched and a switch in the cabin. Slight power increase for those times you need it.

Anyway do it at your own risk if you feel you must, if you want more instructions just ask, I haven't done this to my car and don't really intend to but I thought I'd try to save people a few dollars incase they were interested.

I'm not trying to get people to buy the thing off ebay, I'm just saying what the item is and what it 'does' whether it works or not I have no idea just trying to stop people paying for a 50cent component from some shady ebay person.

If it sounds too good to be true it most likely is and given that Exhaust and Intake mods are far more costly yet don't produce as much as this product claims should set alarm bells ringing.

Oh there's an exceptionally good chance its a total scam, however the 'theory' of it is correct as when your car is cold the IAT detects cold air passing through the intake as there is no heat from the engine so the car gives a bit more power to overcome this issue.

As the car warms up that 'slight' increase in power is removed to standard running temps, so in theory good practice = probably lies.

The thing is your getting the power from the cold air.... if the engine is warm the air wont be as cold as it is on a cold start, so really it wont give u any power juss use more petrol and run the car rich!!!

juss use more petrol and run the car rich!!!
And that's richer than the already rich factory tune.

well they do call this component a resistor as stated b4 this will just run ur car rich and will do harm than good in the long run:think:

yes this 50c component is what mitsubishi forgot to add when they spent millions designing the things... yeah if your car is running lean from the factory this might work but mostly it's the opposite. If it doesnt increase your f in a/f ratio too much it won't really harm anything except the atmosphere and your wallet

you should do a search next time first. This has been posted many times before.....

Speak to Chantra, he has one of them things fitted to his car! Rhino fitted it in for him.

I've previously done the research myself and decided it is not worth the money. (Although I never found a part number for the resistor 3W4K7J - 4,700ohms 3watt ?) In fact personally I don't think even doing it all yourself is worth it.

I think the mod relies on the ECU making other adjustments like timing to make sure the engine doesn't hurt itself. The question is :"Is it smart enough to do that job 100%?"

Chantra had his fitted sometime in March, and he drives the living hell outta his car, its still working fine...he had a Barry fuel rail, timing belt and this resistor done to his car on the same day and he swears blind that one of them is making his car run better.

Calling anyone who has done this mod... Has anyone tried a before and after on the dyno?

Hey Boozer, Chantra has a different mod on his car. His mod relates to the oxy sensor from what i remember when we both last had discussions. He should be back online after Monday you can always ask him. In regards to these cheap mods get in touch with Chargeroz re his timming mod. I have been running it for the last month and a bit with no issues at all. Seems to make a difference to my vehicle. More responsive and a bit better in the economy side of things.
