View Full Version : TR/S Differences ?

In the not too distant future, I will be looking at buying a TR or a TS magna... So far the only reason i'm leaning towards the 94' TS is because of the different grille... I like it better
Anyway; are there any mechanical/structural differences between that, and say, a 92' TR Executive ?
Also, what are the standard features of each ? (The more features it has as standard, the less I need to put in... heh :P )
Cheers,
-Simon

K lets go:
TR had a different boot garnish to the TR, by this I mean the area around the numberplate on the boot.
The TR was grey and had a reflector across the top...whereas the TS had the reflectors that looked like a continuation of the rear lights and the chrome mitsu letters and the garnish was the colour of the car.
91 and 92 TR's only came in the 2.6cyl whereas u can get 93 exec's in the V6.
If you want a TR/TS get the V6, it's a much better car.
The TR had a different grille (but all parts between TR and TS are interchangable anyway)
Standard features of the exec models were just the basics, air con, power windows, cruise control in autos (correct me if I'm wrong..I own a manual).
If you're after an auto get yourself a KR or KS verada (KS preferably..nicer car)
And give me the boot garnish from the KS or the TS! :P hehehe
Hope that helps..
Oh there is no mechanical difference...tho I think the higher models, Elite, GLX Verada had different suspension....you'd have to double check that one though.

Im sure if anyone knows about his tr's and ts's is killbilly. The easy way to tell the diff is the grille. TR's use a wide mouth grille where as the TS use a split more defined grille.

Good stuff; that's helped me heaps. And knowing that the parts are interchangable has 'opened' my choices a bit... Heh, I will be able to disguise it if i want! hehe
But I will take your advice into account when the main hunt starts; and hopefully I will be able to come out with a KR/S. But if it comes down to it, I will just get the standard model and do as much as i can to it. The V6 would be a bonus...
Thanks for all your help people, I look forward to talking with ya's later on.
Cheers,

Just a quick addon. The SE TR had electric mirrors and colour coded bumpers, mirrors etc.
I have a 93 TR SE wagon and it has the red continuation of the tail lights as discribed above.
The TR wagon changed the washer bottle at the end of 93 to a single unit at the front.
With the 2.6l's somewhere along the run they changed to roller type rockers with a wheel instead of a skid type.

really it all depends on how much money you want to spend. personally id be trying to get the best bang for your buck, kinda like in the cross! if you can afford it start at a manual v6 ts si then if you cant work your way down from there. youll also then find each individual car will have different extras. i was lucky enough to score abs, air bag, stereo and a very dark window tint with mine. so it really pays to keep looking around until you find what you want. if you feel like your settling for something, pass on it, unless its so cheap the difference will make up for it. good luck bud, you made a good choice with these cars!

My TR exec has power mirrors, all TR's have power mirrors, except maybe the GLX which was a 2.6l Carby.
The wagon garnish is different to the TS sedan garnish. The way I described it is probably not the best way, I'd have to post pics to explain.
Even my old TP Exec had power mirrors and a/c and it was the carby 2.6
Also, for a more decent comparo, have a look at http://www.carsales.com.au/pls/carsales/!cs_content.research_search

That URL won't work.
Carsales stores your previous search in session variables, form post variables (stored on the server, unique to your visit) so you can't get a link and come back to it later on.

Hmm Strange Killbilly as the TR Exec wagons I saw when looking for mine only mine had electric mirrors !
Maybe those owners got duped !

In that case, just go to www.carsales.com.au and click on the
car research menu.
The link works fine for me and others at work.

I thought you had the link automatically bringing up the TR and TS for comparison. Oops.

No probs. Looks like the ts had better security and safety standard/options

Maybe the wagons are different, or 91-92 TR execs might not have had them, as from 93 they had more standard features as this was when the V6 was across the board and not just in the Verada.

I have the TS brochure here. V6 engine came in this series across the Magna range, however the 2.6's were still available, and quite common as well since I have one.
Only the GLX was not equipped with the electric side mirrors.
Drivers airbag was optional ONLY on the V6 models. Power windows was supposedly only available on the SE models (Killbilly: maybe your prev. owners added them on themselves or somehow got it installed as an extra).
Cruise control is also supposedly only available on the SE. Maybe MMAL might have had some special cases for some customers too.
Oh and ABS is optional on all V6 models.

Weird coz every TR that I've seen had electric mirrors, exec, se, elite etc.

i think your both getting windows and mirrors mixed up. and any way the solution is a simple one. get a ts! with all the options, v6 manual, power everything, abs, airbag, alarm, stereo, etc etc etc. it worked for me!!! :D
