1) dont put 4"s back in the dash your wasting your time man...
2) take that speaker into a repco/autobarn/JBHIFI/any other car audio place and get some shallow ones.
3) i THINK you can cut some plastic away
but as i said, not worth the effort man, re route the wires into the doors (not that hard just takes some common sense to get them there) and get some nice fat 6"s :D

I have a 92 tr ... i also had this problem ... even if you cut away plastic you wont be able to secure them in properlywith the covers back on so i would re route wires to the door like the before mentioned idea.

Dude you can fit ANY 4 inch speaker in there. All you have to do is cut that plastic bit away with a stanley knife an presto, it's done. The plastic is only there for the stock speaker to sit on. You may have to cut 2 corners off but most semi-decent 4 inches will come with bendable mounts.
U can fit any 4" speakers in there but u have to cut the plastic, i'll show u the difference between 6.5" splits at the front and 4". i was gona go 4" at the front but the 6.5" splits i got off greg are awesome. If u already have the 4" speakers then i'll happily help ya put them in, if not then i suggest chagning ur mind, i'll show u what i did sometime if u want.

thanks guys,
What happened was that Butts bought 4in speakers and we tried to fit them but the only problem was the plastic so they were not installed because of that.
it would be easier for me to put 4in in the fron because i have 220w sony xplode 6x9s, and there being run by a boss 2 channel 400w amp maybe geting sub soon.
Just a question how hard is it tocut the holes in the doors and re wire them there.??
im not really that keen on the 6in splits to hard.
thanks
BTW dave wat suburb u live in ?

Chop the plastic mate, it's not hard, wont take you more than 5 mins and your 4" will slide straight in. Won't affect anything.

Im in Salisbury. I gotta say splits are defintely ur best option but each to his own, it took me a whole day to do mine but i connected my speakers directly to the metal and made an insert from scratch for the speaker grill to go on. The way i have my speakers is very very secure and looks ****in awesome with the orange door inserts.
If you want to see what i've done etc....Just let me know, and remember the only speakers have in my car atm are 6.5" cadence splits wired up as my front speakers unamped. Just with these speakers alone i get rattling problems without distortion lol
