Hi, guys, I installed a Pod, with a bracket i purchased from Autobahn, I'm sure if this is'nt normal, but after a cold start, when i drive off, the car feels like its about to stall, it sputters a bit, and then gets going , mind you this is an automatic, happens at the lights, randomly until the car is warmed up after the warm up I still get the delayed Rev response from about 800 - 2,500 RPM which im gathering is the "Flat Spot" , I'm also not getting any suction noise from the Pod, could it possibly be the bracket i got isn't sealing properly ? Or is this part of the "Flat Spot" problem that you guys are talking about, It happened straight after i installed the Pod, it feels like its got something to do with the fuel pump, when it sputters. Any Ideas/Advice would be appreciated thanks.....

How big is the pods opening and how big is the adapters opening?

i'd recheck that everything has been installed properly.

Sounds like you got the wrong adapter. I know repco have the right one..
Check and see if any of the mesh is covered over. If it is theres the problem..

its a round pod, the adapter is the right size, i dont know what else could be wrong, i'll take a photo of my installation tonight its hard to describe it lol.... , but the car sputtering, could that be casued by a leaking pod adapter ?

Take a photo of the Adapter and the pod disconnected. My money is on the adapter its the wrong diameter and if thats the case the pod will be too.

yeh my bet is on the adapter not being the right size (hence why i asked the size :)).

when you say what size is the Adapter, like the rubber sleeve of the POD feats snug around the bracket and the 4 bolts line up perfectly with the existing holes, any how i will take a photo to see of you guys can spot anything. As im at work till 4:30

I'd say ithe round shap of the pod thats causing the problems rather then the adapter sizing.

i've been running a round pod for the ~2 years and i've had no problems at all..

but then again, some people have reported problems with the round pods!

round as in "Round Tapered (Cone Filter)" yes but havent people on AMC used this type of filter without any problems, I know its ment to be creating a turbulent effect on the MAF, but given the fact it only happens from a stand still acceleration to about 30kmphs i dont see how this is an issue, car runs perfectly fine after that, and after the carz warmed up.

ja.....many people have had the round ones and they've been fine, i reckon its the adaptor.....or a small size pod neck

Why risk it? Why not just use a pannel K&N?

I'll go down to repco after work and see if the adapter they have is different to mine

Science has a 4 1/2? inch Pod, so the actuall inlet of the Pod is bigger then the MAF, cant go wrong there lol

It very well could be the adapter, thats why I only offerd an opinion, I don't like stating things as fact unless I know it correct. :P

Don't tell me you removed it?
If you have that explains all your problems.
If i'm not mistaken it's VERY vital to how the MAF detects the air going through.

Yes it is. I couldn't even remove mine when I put my pod on. Put it back on, then re-attach the pod and see if your problems are gone.

yea i did remove it, only because some of the cells were broken, and thought it did nothing, looks like i was wrong..... i'll put it back on, I only removed the central honeycomb, not the ones on the side..... i dont seriously see though how, at such low speeds even when i put my foot on the accelerator from a stand still, why it sputters :S.
anywayz i will try putting it back on when i get home and see how it goes.....

ok, i put the honeycomb back on last night, still got same problem but its not as evident it happens more randomly, still scares the **** outta me when im at the lights think its going 2 stall... and i rechecked everything is installed properly, I'll change the adapter tomorrow to see if this improves the problem

Can you post a pic of the adapter you are using. Just by looking at it we can tell you if its the correct one or not.

ok guys, this is the pod adaptor i've been running for about 18months without any issues. it takes a 4.5 inch pod, and you can see that the inside of the adaptor is the same shape as the maf inlet, and therefore doesn't block any of the maf off. It cost around $35 from repco.

Hope this helps guys.

Chris

As posted this one will work.. I used to run it as well without any issues at all. My car is back to stock now thats another story. If its the one from autobahn the diameter of the adapter is much smaller and blocks the airflow which causes the car to splatter and stutter and run excesivley rich. Dont have the partno's but i got caught out the first time around as well. They took it back and provided me a refund..

I went to 3 Repco's and 2 Autobarns today and they didnt have that type of adapter, the Autobarn in Dandenong actully did have it, but the diameter is designed for a 4.5inch Pod and mine is smaller, so i guess i have to get one of those and sell my pod 2 some one

Well thats prob why your engine is choking, i'm assuming you've got a 3 inch pod? They need to be bigger.
