ok just chatted to the guys tht I was going to get to do my intake - they are doing full sports suspension for me next week and thought I would get the intake done at same time...
Anyway story has it that K & N and he said his other supplier - no name - do not do intakes for Magnas only falcon/commodores.... so just wondering what everyone else had done and if think it is worth just getting K & N filter or just leaving it all alone...
For those who have done the mods has it made any signifigant difference?
Also maybe a suggestion of somewhere in Sydney that is good to do it would be useful

What i did was take off the intake snorkel, run piping from the stock airbox down to the front bar and use a K & N panel filter in the airbox....

If i were you i would replace it with a K&N panel, you will notice the difference in sound and a slight diff in performance nothing massive at all. it is a lot better than the stock filter thats for sure!!

AND you never have to replace it ever, ever again!!!
Pod style filters are way better with some form of intake and stainless pipe from the pod to the TB... that's the only way to go if you are going to spend the money... and it's legal and when the hell does anyone get pulled over in a Magna?!?! Just make sure it has a heat shield and some form of fresh intake air going to it and you will find you notice decent hp gains and probably a giant sucking noise from in your engine bay =P

Use pipes with smooth interior surface to enable the best flow. K&N definitely worth - if nothing else, just for the cost in the long run.
Do a search for CAI (Cold Air Induction) and u'll find plenty of info re this.:)

Well.. There's a guy here in Brisbane that will make up a 3" Stainless (1 piece - Meaning TIG welded) CAI pipe and will also allow for fitment of the MAF Sensor..
$420 - Installed
Alotta money when you compare it to you DIY setups that are pretty much the same..
I've always wondered whether or not the CAI would reach the front passengers side wheel arch.. In front of the wheel..?
Thats where we placed my cousins in his Hyundai Coupe.. We copyed the idea of AEM.. and got it custom done! Not too shabby..
If you want you could always go for 3" Aluminium and throw that through there! Cheaper then stainless!

 yeah i went in to bunnings and purchased 1 meter of 100mm irrigation type piping. Shoved one end where the stock snorkel is, and the other end in the fog light hole, no clamps or tape, just wedged in both ends really well.
Seems to be a small improvement, but it is not as good as the CAI i use in summer, which is with 3 flexible heat resistant elbows, and two straight pieces of metal pipe, which puts my POD and MAF near the fog light . I have to say the pod CAI feels quicker than the panel CAI, and makes such a better induction noise its not funny lol
But i dont think it is a good idea to have an airfilter splashing through puddles.
Also, thbutcher (or a name like that) on these forums will sell you a kit that can put your pod in fresh air away from engine heat if you like for about $120 i think.
Or the ol' bunnings pipe is good for a minor improvement.
Either way, get ya hands dirty and have fun !

I think you are referring to TH Smoker (not to be confused with TButcher), who designed and sold a CAI kit over the forums some time ago. I'm pretty sure the kit is no longer in production however.

so this irrigation tubing, is it heatproof? for the 2nd gens the only way you can have a decent CAI without re-routing the MAS to the front bumper is by running tubing around the battery and down to the front bumper.....now it has to be heatproof as the battery gets REALLY hot and shrunk my last tube....
any help welcomed :D

how did you attach your hose to the box? it sorta looks like you have modifyed a pod adapter to do the job. i just got rid of my pod and got a BMC pannel filter.
