View Full Version : Riding the clutch.....
Alright this may be the most stupid question ive ever asked. What exactly is considered riding the clutch, i've been accused of riding the clutch by my mechanic but i think that it wasnt so much my fault and more the fact the clutch wasnt completely disengaging. I just wanna know what exactly is considered riding the clutch so i can see if i do ride it. :doubt:
Pretty much when you rest your left foot on the clutch hard enough for it to slightly slip while you're driving. Either that or you've been doing too many fancy skids.

i either have my foot completely on the clutch or not on at all and i dump it and i dont do burnouts in MY car

I thought it was when you let it out too gradually so it was half way between engaged and disengaged for longer than it needed to be (wether it be taking off, or changing gears), often when revving the engine more than it should be for the wheel speed.
Who the hell rests their foot on the clutch pedal while they're driving?

ive been told i do but i kinda get moving so clutch bout 30% out and i hold it for a second till im moving then i take it out fully. i can do it quicker but i like riding it a little:nuts: i dont know why so i do. i guess what im saying is everybody drives different so do it your way and dont care what anybody else thinks.
but on a side note a friend when he just got his p's thought he could stop at a set of lights by holding the clutch slightly out. one of the forkes eventually ramed themselves into the gearbox. not nice

ok well i now have cleared a lot of crap up, i dont ride my clutch, there was air in my clutch system resulting in wearing the clutch faster when changing gears....i do need a new clutch and so im getting an exedy heavy duty one. I really dont appreciate being accused of riding my clutch but meh whatever :doubt:

My old woman
Riding it a little as you normally take off is fine, as long as its only about a second all up. Also for hard launches its preferable to ride it out quickly and smoothly instead of dropping it completely (also makes for a faster launch).
