I have always like the look of the TJ instruments although it is a pity that they are lit at night in a vague off white colour rather than bright back lit green like in my VX commodore, but I have heard that green bulbs can rectify this, anyway on with the thread question, I cannot stand the old 80's 90's barrel odometer and cannot understand why it was around even in 1996 when the gen 3 magna was released.
I have noticed that some TJ's have the LCD odo and some have the older barrel style odo, if I happened to find a TJ which I like but which still has the old odometer can I simply change clusters? Or is it a wiring loom thing? Even the local Ford and holdens got rid of them, Ford in 1994 (EF) and Holden in 1997 (VT)

simple reply in a nutshell: Very expensive to retrofit. so im going to say unless you have more money than sense then you can't change from the old school ones to the Digital odo soz mate

Thanks Trinedy, I thought it would be a wiring loom issue (amoungst other things) rather than a plug and play affair, sounds like a similar hassle to retro fitting climate controls.
Simple solution.....by a series 2 TJ advance, that way you get the 155kw 316nm motor, climate air and digital odometer, but with a budget of about 12K I might be pushing my luck.
I have also heard that with the new dash you lose your trip computer window which is centrally located above the middle air vents because the trip computer now works from the cluster, someone correct me if I'm wrong.

that window is still there it just houses a clock and a couple of warning lights. They're both electronic speedos BTW - one has an analogue odo and one has a digital - but neither of them have that horrid old cable going into the gearbox.
