There are a few bits and pieces LPG threads around here, but with the introduction of the new $2000 rebate lots of people will be thinking about switching (myself included).
If you are running on LPG please let us know all you can about it: car, engine, transmission, sedan/wagon, brand of conversion equipment, LPG tank capacity, installer, price and are you happy with it (phew)!
I can't find any details about equipment or install pricing for specific cars from the LPG gear manufacturers or the installers online and the one I called here in Canberra the other day couldn't tell me (thought they do factory installs for MMAL)...
Cheers

Mine is getting installed in 2 weeks possibly. Original quote was $2300apx today they want $2600. Only reason i am prepared to pay the extra is because i dont want to wait months. On top of it i put a 200 dollar deposit for the booking. Equipment no idea. So long as it works and is adequate i dont care. If i have problems with it they will hear about it.
If your going to do it dont sit on the shelf too long because the installers are already run off their feet and some are booked till early next year.

I had my 96 TE 3ltr V6 5spd Sedan converted to LPG a few months ago. It was fitted in Adelaide by Bowey Auto Gas for $1900. The tank is made by Manchester (68ltr with 60ltr useable) with a Lovato conversion. I have a dual filler and my standard fuel gauge is used for both LPG and petrol. Car automatically starts on petrol and changes on it's own to LPG. I have found performance drop to be very minimal maybe 5-7kw. I get between 450 - 500kms per tank with LPG. Was fitted at 116,000kms and have had no issues as yet and have done 4,000kms. There is a 3yr warranty on system. I am running a K&N panel filter, extractors, lowered suspension (king springs), sports exhaust with high flow cat, modded throttle body & computer chip. Car runs perfectly with these mods. I do notice the extra weight when both tanks are full especially when braking. Top speed of vehicle is reduced by roughly 20kph.

sorry to rain on this parade but u guys do know in about mid next year the price of lpg is going to be quite high due to government taxes. even though we sell our natural gas to the asians for 4 cents per litre, in australia we are being charged 55.5 cents:nuts: and its about to grow!
sorry but the rebate does sound like a good idea to put lpg in your car but think about the future and the government is trying to tax everyone on the latest craze.
thats just my two cents

Mmm, i thought about this today for about 10 seconds.
What else is going to happen in the 'next year'? (note, its a steady increase on the taxes starting in 2011, not next year btw) "From 2011, the Government will introduce excise on LPG fuel, rising 2.5c a year until 2015, when it will hit 12.5c." - http://www.news.com.au/dailytelegraph/story/0,22049,20125267-5001021,00.html
-If you get it converted, and do 20,000kms (which i worked mine out for), youd save $1600.
-If you dont, fuel is bound to go up, at least at the rate lpg does.
Over here in WA, we're likely to get $2000 federal and $1000 state rebates. That means alot of lpg conversions will be free or close to it. I bought my 03 TJ AWD 2 months ago, and I'm seriously thinking of getting it converted. Of course, if its free, I'm expecting lines of people waiting for conversions.
Before you 'rain on parades', try google.
Here (http://www.bp.com/autogasCalculatorForm.do?categoryId=4062)is a useful site for calculating saving if switching to LPG.
I know its BPs website but the calculations are simple. Use dollars in place of Pounds and
litres in place of gallons.

The LPG tax doesn't start for a few years yet. Not to mention the tax on petrol is a lot higher.

I've already checked the lines this week its running about 6 months & you're right, for WA most conversions for the magna is $2600 - $2900, so works out free with rebates, but you get your money back only in october. Hence i thought what the heck, & paid a little bribe to have someone fit me in their shop about a month from now.

Rofl, looks like their servers crashed.
I posted a link that has the most detail ive found in the past few days of googling. Another one i found said if the rebate was more than the cost, youd keep the balance. One thing the Wa govt is whinging about is who covers the difference if theres a leftover, fed or state.
I probably wont look into getting it done for a few months, let it die down a bit and see what the results are at a few meets. Like to see yours afterwards Joul.

Only problem if you get converted in another state you wont be able to get the grant Johny is offering.

Hmm. That's a bugger! I guess it means Mum & Dad won't get it done here (Canberra) but could go up to Sydney from the NSW south coast.
I might go and check the grant rule book again!

I can't see the state based restriction (you just have to live in the same state the car is registered in):
ELIGIBILITY
Eligibility at a Glance
The vehicle is for private use (not for commercial or business use) and;
- is a passenger or light commercial vehicle less than 3.5 tonnes Gross Vehicle Mass
- must be registered in the state/territory of residence of claimant
- the Vehicle must not be subject to a novated lease or salary sacrifice arrangement
- one grant per person every three years
- vehicles registered in NSW, VIC, QLD, WA, and the ACT must be registered for private use
- applicants for Vehicles registered in SA, TAS and NT must declare that the vehicle is used for private purposes.
Recipients of state subsidies remain eligible for the Commonwealth grant payment in addition to any state payments.
Claim must be submitted within 12 months of the date of invoice for the purchase of a new vehicle or conversion of a vehicle

Just checked it you are correct. I think they re wrote it. I am sure i read that you had to convert it in your own state. Only thing i can think of is they changed it because of the huge demand for conversions. Gives people option of trying elsewhere. Oh well nothing to worry about then..
