I saw a car on the "post your ride" section that had a mad red coloured center consol and back board thing to the dials. Just wondering if anyone knew how hard it would be to make that happen? Ive got paint n stuff i just need a run thru of how to actually take the thing out of where it is...the dials as well.
Any help would be much appriciated.
Cheers,
Adz

not sure about the dials, but the centre is easy. just a few screws. *thinkgs back to verada*
look under ashtray, then some down the sides nect to the centre consol. then some more screws up just near the aircon controls.

PS i think i have seen you car around forest way, like pulling out from a sports field, could be wrong

was it WARLOCK3 in the post your ride section?

probly painted the same way i did mine. i used some paint from autobarn but i think supercheap stock it too. its a lacquer i think..

you need to prep the panel first, by maybe sanding it if you wish depending on how smooth you want the finish. then you need to wash it down in prep wash to get rid of any oil and dirt.

you'll need to buy some type of that allows you to spray onto plastic....it makes the paint stick to the plastic better but i cant remember what they call it. :(

then you should be ready to spray the colour on. and once the colour is on, you may want to add a clear coat on top of that to give it a bit of shine.

thats basically what i did to mine, if you need help just yell :)

Did anyone sand smooth, or did you leave the texture as it is? I don't really want ultra-shiny, but wasn't too sure how it would turn out without sanding.

Also, has anyone painted the air vents? I'm thinking of adding some silver to my interior, but doing the whole strip bit seemed a little over the top, so was thinking the air vent areas only. Obviously a lot more work though, so not sure what I'll do yet.

I've done two TE consoles and both are holding up very well, firstly degrease the items to get rid of grease armour all etc, then lightly sand if you wish with wet and dry.
Then degrease it again.
After its dry apply a coat of plastic primer, very important for it to last a long time, about $15 for a can.
Then apply around 3 coats of colour.
And to finish it off 2 or more coats of clear, I find doing this gives a tough finish so the paint does'nt rub off.
Buff lightly if you need to.

All done.

How'd u take the long skinny piece off above the glove box. I never figured it out so i left it black

How'd u take the long skinny piece off above the glove box. I never figured it out so i left it blackFrom what I can tell from the service manual, if you take off the instrument cluster bezel, there should be a screw to the left hand side of there. Also two wingnuts behind the strip, not entirely sure how to get to those, I think you need to take out the glovebox and then the glovebox surround (the casing bit)?

As for paint; will the Export paints work at all, especially the clear, or should the extra money be spent on more expensive brands?

its held on by a wingnut inbetween the left and centre air vents. but at the time i didnt know that so some brute force left and right and the actual bolt detatched itself from the strip. lucky for me i didnt break it, but i do not recommend doing it that way. ill be doing it the proper way on my KR

to make it shiny you need a couple of coats of clear. probly best to spend a few extra bucks on a can of decent spray paint aswell. if you go to a automotive paint shop they will be able to mix up custom cans for you for about $20-$30.
