View Full Version : advance vs sports

09-12-2003, 11:37 PM
just came back from my 'cruise' as i was dropping a mate off at home. i live just north of sutherland, and he lives past wollongong.

anyway - on my way down, i noticed a very sexy car, came out to be magna sports. raced it down the hill - very nicely done by the other driver (130's most of the way down) - on a straight though - as i tried to push the accelerator through the floor, i noticed how quickly he pulled away, and i mean QUICKLY.

so the question comes to this - what's the difference between my 2002 advance, and his sports? not sure of the year, but i'm guessing 2002 also - due to the tail lights.

btw - i noticed the car stopping to accelerate after reaching 215 - how so? is that the comps limit? as the car doesnt struggle to get to the speed at all even on a straight.

after noticing how much petrol it guzzled tonight - i stopped a petrol station back at sutherland, and noticed how dirty the front was from hitting all the flies :( - will have to see if i can take the grill out tomorrow, as i'm sure its packed with 'crap'

for anyone in the area - i made a new personal record tonight - 14 minutes from wollongong uni to sutherland.

thanx guys

did u notice the plates?

10-12-2003, 02:09 PM
nope- didnt pay much attention to the wheels :(

pretty sure it was stockish (height and wheels), although we were both pushing 200+, it was a bit hard to check out his wheels

..

You hang around these forums and you don't know?

About 8 kilowatts and 3 Nm. Not much.
Was his manual? was it modified? we don't know.

Cheers. :D

1. If it's a manual (sports), then gear changing / takeoffs will be a lot quicker than the automatic TJ Advance. I've noticed on crusies too, that even the 3.0L manuals can pull off quicker. Though without A/C the auto box still does pretty good most of the time.

2. Exhaust - Is yours stock? If so, then there's your problem. When I went to a straight though Lukey muffler, higher RPM range was improved a lot, certinally made 'racing applications' a lot better. Now once I hit ~80k/hr, etc, the car want's too keep on pulling and doesn't seemt to die off as quick.

3. Was your AirCon OFF? This makes a HUGE difference. Racing?=No AC :)

BLKWGN:

I'd love to if i aint working (most likely will be - how else will i finance my mods? :))

Where is it? What time?

My exhaust is stock - as is the rest of the car. The aircon was probably on full blast as my friend was playing with it (for about 30 minutes - bloody hell, first he brings it to 28 degrees, then down to 21- argh...)

so you reckon those two factors alone could/would/will contribute a lot to the performance (not much i understand) of a car ?!

Absolutely.

The stock muffler would've held you back compared to the straight-though job that are on the Sports models. When the AC is on, my Advance feels laggy, and doesn't hold the gears as long when redlineing it :D

Though keep in mind, if the other fella had a manual, or other mods...extractors/unichip???...then that might explain things too.

Definately affects performance. Your aircon will probably shut off after 3000 rpm but that's to protects itself.

driving after work at about midnight tonight a stock looking TE-TH model white magna pulled up next to me at 80km/h, just as the speed limit was about to hit 100, so i dropped to 3rd (not expecting him to race) and took off. Wasnt even watching him but i glanced in my mirror and he was nowhere, he was next to me and keeping with me and racing the bastard! haha.
no idea if auto or manual but i was slowly pulling away (wasnt watching all that closely as i had to take an exit up ahead).

Anyways point is this is the 2nd time i have raced a 3rd gen magna. i wouldnt of thought a magna vs magna race would be common

i saw a white magna racing through the city behind me a couple of days back

i've never seen anything so sexy - it was lowered with a kit on - couldnt see the plates, but as we both changed lanes, i saw it in my rear view mirror from one side to the other of the road - i was WHOOAAA....

i seriously am falling in love with my car :? and the front of the magnas...

ahhh - some one cork it
