I have a 1999 article on the TH sports tiptronic auto, it still has 147 kw and only a 4 speed box with tippy, but it's times (G-Tech) are considerably better than stock TJ series 2's.
The only advantage I can see that the TH sports has over a stock TH is the tiptronic box and yet it apparently goes so much better 0-100 8.1 secs and 400m 15.6 secs.
Confusing:confused:
Tried to attach the article, manage attachments browse/ upload from computer/ no worries but it isn't here!

Could be something to do with gear ratios.

Impressive times,
Tried 0-100 km in the wifes new car the other day its a tj series 2 auto wagon got 8.6 seconds on both runs alot faster than the ts v6 which did 10.8.

TJ series 2 would probably be faster than that if measured with Datron equipment.
What gets me with this article is that I can see no mechanical advantage over a stock TH,
afaik it has the same gear ratios, same engine etc.
I have often wondered if the true results for these 3.5 autos aren't revealed when testing the everyday models against Ford and Holden and only the sports models get the true figures, but I could not see why a motoring journalist would want to do this. In most road tests I've read the V6 Commodores and Falcons beat the 3.5 auto Magnas.
However, I own a VX and a VT wagon and have driven several 3.5 auto magnas (TH and TJ) and every Magna would have out performed both my cars without a doubt and any loss in acceleration in the Magnas would be due to wheel spin and not inferior performance.
P.S. I did a search and followed the instructions and still could not attach the article link to my thread, I'm obviously too stupid:redface: can somebody tell me what I'm doing wrong?

If you're trying to post a link just post it how it is (eg. www.link.com) If it's a file you're trying to attach it might be too big for the site in which case you will need to host it elsewhere. If this is the case you can email it to me, belated@ecn.com.au and I will host it for you. If it's an image file, you can link to it from offsite by wrapping IMG tags around it...
www.link.to/pic.jpg Alternatively, if you can't link to it or you have the image file and it's too big, again, send it to me and I will host it for you.

Thanks for your help Disciple, the file is only small and stored on my hard drive in 'my documents' it is only a text document 16 kb in size.
P.S. Gotta love those Ralliart Magnas:D nice car you have there.

I always felt that the TH had more agressive acceleration that my TJ wierd being my TJ more powerful.

Gtechs can't be trusted as accurate *rolls eyes*

There's a roll eyes emoticon. They aren't 100% accurate, but it's more accurate than a stop watch.

Thanks Disciple (and others) for all your help and advice with posting links and documents, I'll have a crack at it.
I know what you mean with the stopwatch thing, I had a friend who's mum's Gemini (1979) could get to 100 kph in 9 secs:redface: according to him anyway, but with Datron correvit you could put a 1 in front of that 9 for a more accurate answer.
Hey "Boost" 7.3 secs is not bad, is yours a manual? I reckon a series 2 magna auto could get into low or flat 8's 0-100 kph with hardly any mods.
I've heard that G-Tech can sometimes read optimistic or pessimistic (spelling) but are still a reasonable means of measurement, especially when comparing 2 cars, it is better than dangerous drag racing.
I wonder if J-Car can get them, that would be a good place to start.
