View Full Version : TP Magna EFI Missing
I have a TP Magna EFI 5 speed and i get this bad miss like it misses all 4 cylinders for a split second and then comes fine again. It continues to do this back and forth , sometimes its ok but most of the times its not. Im thinking its electrical so i checked the dizzy cap and replaced the coil lead. I pulled out one plug and replaced it so far. I dont think it would be a plug as this seems to be more dramatic than just one plug misfirring. Also replaced the fuel filter which seemed to work for a while but its definately back getting worse at the moment. Also replaced the orginal air filter (350,000 ks) but that done jack.
Any ideas???

Had similar things with my TP a while back.
It was either (or both) a coroded pin on the ECU and a problem with the ignition module
Ive changed all the plugs and leads and still is the same. Funny though, some days it does it and some days it doesnt, weird

Quite likley the plug on the distributor is corroded, grab one from your local auto elec.

no when u checked the dizzy cap are u 100% sure there wern't ANY cracks in the plastic, even if there's a hairline crack. cos even a slight crack can cause the symtoms ur describing. maybe chage it and see if its any better.
is the car grounded well? how old is ur battery? have u changed the rotor button lately? is ur alternator generating enough current/ and or is the alt connected properly(bad connections can do this too). how many klms is on the car ( cos the dizy has a reputation for just going without any notice). is one of ur sparkplugs dead??

I'll try the dizzy cap, i have one lying around. I cant see how the battery would make any difference at all!!!! The alternator is an interesting point however, it appears to get a surge of energy and the alt light comes on and the headlights and dash lights go all bright like its getting to much voltage. Its been doing this a while, and makes no difference to the miss though.
Car has done 350,000 ks and still going. Spark leads have been changes indivually and no change. Got a new coil lead as well, will check the coil and dizzy cap and rotor.

That alternator problem you just described should be fixed ASAP! otherwise you'll ruin the new battery:nutkick:

first and second gen magnas have been know to have prob with there battery , as in if the batteries not in good nick (eg.old) it can cause starting probs . sounds like ur alt is up for replacing. orotr button is like 10 bucks so u might as well swap it. just pulls on and off easy.
Well i found the problem and it was none of the above. I changed the dizzy cap and it was ok for a while but then the miss came back. It turned out to be the connection to the MAP sensor. The clip is broken so it fits loosely, so obviously it was only getting half a connection sometimes and was going in and out of SAFE mode. Tied it up with a cable tie and have driven another 200ks without a mis.
