Got a friend with a busted TJ remote, I know you can get new ones and program them, but I have got an old one off my dads old TJ (forgot to give it to the buyer) can these things be REprogrammed the same way as new ones?
Would just try it but its a 100km round trip just to see if it works.....

Yes 2nd hand remotes can be reprogrammed the same way, but i have also heard a rumour that they can only be reprogrammed 3 times. Though this won't be an issue (if its true) because you know the remote has only been a part of your dads old car.

yeah it can be done my pad is programmed to open 3 cars. So if we are parked together 1 person has to unlock their car and the rest unlock too

It is the car that is reprogrammed, not the remote. I'm not sure on the limits but I do know that each ECU will only accept 8 keys (not remotes)

it will work. but you will need to reprogram your set of remotes at the same time...
providing the remotes are functional
i can give you the procedure if you would like.

i highly doubt that.
the remotes are registered to the particular immobiliser of that vehicle. and only one code pairing is made. although you can register i think 4 remotes to a car, i know 3 at least...

I watched mitsi reprogram two of mine on the spot at mitsi dealership. They (remote) will re - learn to the vehicle - not the remote

Hi Mate,
I think I will take you up on your offer of telling me the procedure for reprogramming the remotes.
Thankyou.
Luke
no problem,
put working-coded key into ignition.
click to acc - ign, acc - ign, acc - ign, acc - ign
leave a ~1 sec gap between each cycle.
when cycled correctly, indicators will flash
press button on each remote that needs to be programmed.
switch key to off
remove key
and test
