ok well i'll just tell the story. now keep in mind ive never had any issuses with my tp cos ive done all the work myself except when a mechanic put some ball joints in a stuffed it up and i had to get a specialists to fix it but thats another story.

On sunday i thought id go for a bbq with the family. Now we couldn't decide where we wanted to go cos theres so many places to chosse from. So we ended up driving around for about an hour and a half before the girl found a place she liked. anyway we pulled up and had a walk around to see if she thought it was ok but still wanted to find something better. so we jump back into the tp and i turn the key but nothing happens. When i say nothing i mean nothing, no starter noise or electic sounds what so ever , it was completly quiet. now i thought this was wierd cos ive always serviced it every 5000klms and taken really good care of the tp , and have never had ant problems or break downs till this. So i sat for a second and thought i'd move the auto selector through the PNRDL2L1 and then give the gas a pump and try turning the key again to see if it made a difference , but nothing changed. By this time im a little worried cos were near a river in the middle of no where and we both forgot to bring our mobiles and the tp's not starting.

now the battery is a new yellow top optima so that shouldn't be flat, all the electrics worked cause i checked by putting it in acc and tring the lights and cd etc etc. the dizzy cap, rotor, leads, coil, sparpugls are all new as is most of the wearable parts in the tp.
so this time i hop out and open the bonnet, now the engines a little warm but it never went over half before we pulled up and has not over heated. So i unhooked the battery and let it sit for 10 mins to make sure it was cooled down and that the computer had restet.
i jumped back in the tp and turned the key and it went first try, almost like there was no problem to begin with wtf??
now the girlfriend has been usinf it for work the last 2 days without a single hickup.
when we got home after getting it started i checed over the whole car and could'nt find anything wrong.

it just striked me as strange seeing as the last few months its been going better than before. the only work done lately to it was putting in new kings springs in the back and did a engine oil-filter change and auto tranny oil and filter change . mind you the car's only got 105 000klms on it and it been treated good from the word go and ive just continued that.

Yeah sounds a bit like ya had a loose or dirty battery terminal. :)

nope not the terminals. i had just done a check over the car that morning before going anywhere and while doing that i had disconnected the battery but made sure it was reconnected tightly. i also put new terminals on last week (gold plated). cos im so fussy with keeping it maintained and running good the battery and connections get a light sand with fine paper about every 2 weeks.
thats why it struck me as strange cos i keep the tp mechanics in good nick and every sunday the car get a clean and check over , it's become habit, some reason the tp has grown on me so i treat it good.

plus in the next 4-5 weeks im doing a 6000klm road trip down to nsw then back up the east coast, so in saying that the tp had had almost everything replaced or renewed mechaniclly and electriclly . just because i knew i wanted her running good for the trip , even though this is the first time ive ever had a problem starting . and its not like the tp been clapped out , cos theres ppl who own the same magna as me with 3 times the klms on theres.

anyway it only happened the once and hasn't done it agian. and it does about 50klm a day at in city traffic with no fuss. but fingercrossed it dosen't decide to do it more in the future:confused:

oh and i'll look at what u suggested buffy on sunday. cheers for the replies guys.

I forget what I suggested
anyway my tp had the exact same problem ... only once in a while..
too lazy to pull it out and strip it down to have a look see
the starter motor/solenoid finally stopped ... shaft bushes siezed /solenoid burnt out
carry a spare starter on your trip just in case

coulda told me that before the maroochydore cruz........:bowrofl:

There's two things that I think it could be by the sounds of it.
1 - One of the relays is starting to wear
2 - You have a faulty electrical plug

Not sure if the relays would affect the Magna the same way as other cars, but they can bring some cars to complete deadness like you experienced.

A faulty electrical plug can cause major problems also, and that could have been moved to create a better connection when you removed the battery terminals. Years ago my brother had a VH Commodore uni car, that came to a complete deadness when driving along (no electrical power at all). When the RAA (NRMA/RACV etc equivalent) came, he just wiggled a harmless looking plug and the radio (and other power) can back straight away.

well all the fuses, relays and fusable links were replaced last month. i did push all the eletrical together but maybe it time to pull them all out and give em a good old clean with metho. thanks for the tips guys, it all helps:thumbsup:
