the service book says 100,000 but mits do it at 90,000 which is the big service so that more money for them. I think mits charge around the $700-$800 mark for the 90,000km service.

Might as well do it at 90, better safe than sorry.
Plus they last for 100,000km so if you have an auto, chances are your belt will outlast the gearbox :bowrofl:

I had an r31 pintara 4 cyl, turns out the timing belt was original when it shredded and fell apart. It made it 218,000km.. but thats with the typical nissan half working odometer from about 200k on wards. lol.

Remember it's also a time thing aswell. Rubber parts deteriorate over time. I'm getting mine done at 90k because the car is 6 years old.
I think it's supposed to be done about the 110k/5yr mark. Better to be safe than sorry. I'm getting them to change a few other things while they're in there to save on labour later on (drive belts, all plugs iridium etc).

Book says 100,000. Most people will do it at either the 90,000 service or the 105,000 service.

My TJ is at 140,000k's and i have no idea if its been done or not, bought it at 120,000k but still unsure, the service book has been stamped every 10k but no details as to whats done each time.
I removed the cover, looks brand new but what worried me is that ppl say it looks new even when its stuffed? i hope it was done at 100k otherwise its gotta last till 200,000

The automotive general saftey factor is about 2, so 200,000km is what is was designed to last and they specify change at 100,000.

i brought my tj with about 98500km on it and it had service history at a mitsu dealer, but nothing marked in the book regarding the cambelt and no sticker on the cam cover (which most people put on when replacing it) i was pricing up the BIG service to get the belt done at 105km... then one day i dropped in to the dealer where it had previously been serviced and he looked it up and HOOBLOODYRAY it was dont at the 90km service!! so i guess it pays to check first maybe it's been done.... i didnt think it was due to the km on my car i thought it was traded just before, as i've done similar things in the past...
Had my timing belt done yesterday, 94,000kms.
Major service oil etc, plugs, timing belt, alternator/aircon belt, less than $600 by mitsi

First change was done at 90 G as per service book - car wasn't mine back then. Did second change at 180 G - even tho it looked ok. But I had water pump changed, so got all done at same time, including the tensioners.

Took my belt off late nite when we oulled the engine out.. belt wasnt that bad.. thought it was worse.. done a pinch over 100K.. Think the tensioner isnt doing its job right though... Mits tension is the worst design..
