my budget is $6000

i would prefer an in dash dvd, but its not the bees and ees.

i can't decide on which woofer option: two 10's or a single 12

style of music most listen to is trance / hard trance, other include 70's 80's rock, and sometimes rap

i'm looking for very clear crisp sound, and i want big bass on tap, which means i like decent bass with trance, and 70's 80's, but huge bass when the old rap comes out

i will look into any recommended brands, at the moment i'm leaning towards alpine, but would like to see some other options

any help would be great

a set of Boston Z6's is about the best you can go without having to start modifying panels to fit in speakers. insane quality speakers, for around $1500
http://www.bostonacoustics.com/car/car_product.aspx?product_id=216

JVC KW-AVX700 double din dvd player can be had for around the $1100 mark, people have had huge success with these, seem like awesome units.

subwoofer, you could get a Diamond Audio TDX12 for around $1000, and a custom box to boot for $350, the TDX is one if THE BEST sould quality subs in the world, and outs out a fair bit while its at it.
http://www.diamondaudio.com/products/index.cfm?page=productSearch&Line=&Type=28&model=&searchSubmit=SEARCH
(its the Model # D912D2/D912D4)

dynamat bulk pack and installation $500

monoblock amp, an Alpine MRD-M1005 for around $800 would handle the TDX very nicely

2 channel for the fronts.. one of the new Focal FP 2.150's would be sweet as for $750.
http://www.focal.tm.fr/car/download%20en/power/FT_FP_2-150.pdf

the last $350 would cover the installation of the deck, speakers, amps n sub, plus cabling.

Alpine is NOT the best...sure they make good gear, but there are far better products available.

Agreed.

Woob has offered some good advice. With $6000 though, look around. You can get a great system with that budget. For Dynamat, which you'll need, I suggest eBaying it. Much cheaper than anywhere else. Plus it's not liek it's gonna be faulty or not work when it arrives at your door.

Look at this list - http://www.caraudioaustralia.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=67923

Instead of going into places like Tonkins, JB, Strathies etc which tend to carry mainstream gear, try some specialty car audio stores with gear in the "players" section. Alot of the speakers there will knock your socks off.

I haven't listedned to a wide enough scope to be able to recommend anything specifically. Recently listened to some DLS gear, impressed me.
