View Full Version : How much for 0 AWG cable?
Hi all, any idea whats the aveage price for say 5 metres of 0 , 4, 8 AWG cable? I'm actually thinking of getting some to making a earthing kit for my car.
At the moment the lowest for 5 metres of 0 AWG cable is about aud$50 with delivery. thinkness is "OD:15.5mm". hows tha price? is the thickness about right?
Cheers

0gauge is huge! Are you running 4 portable Mig welders out of your boot :P

yar i know....still thinking about it.....but whats the avg price for 4, 6, 8, AVG cable? :bowrofl:
0awg, $11 per meter
4awg, $7 per meter
8awg $4 per meter
those prices would be considered good, usually a bit more than that in most car audio stores.
if you buy welders flex cable it will be cheaper again, and there is NO performance loss, despite what some cable fanboys think. its just a bit spikey so watch your fingers on exposed ends :)

funny you mention it, im doing my earthing kit as we speak.
im running 4 pieces of 4g from various places in the engine bay back to a custom polished bushbar.
I think my 4ga was about $10? a meter from JBHIFI
0gauge is overkill.....4ga would be plenty
depends what hes using it for.. boot battery setup, 0ga is good. i know people who run 8 0ga runs and NEED it :)
if you plan on doing the ole SPL, and have over 2000W RMS on tap.. 0ga for sure, every last bit of power makes a difference.

Me + terminal needs redoing but this is my effort at an earthing kit.
One goes to the radiator
One goes to the Strut Tower
One goes to the back of the engine (where the yellow+black wire used to be)

Use welding cable... 50mm^2 from BOC gases $7 a meter.
Or use stinger and pay $20 a meter... :)
Bigger is better. But for a ground kit a few runs of 2 gauge (from jaycar) would be fine...

I certainly do remember you! who could forget that awesome zorst...btw suspension is tops...ANYWAY

lol you like my spoiler now?

haha.....yar rem the day you bought it.....yur car looks great now....
I'm now thinking of doing a earthing kit similar to Barry's kit......think about 6-8 points.....one here one there....haha
I paid about $8/metre for my 4 gauge audio cabling.
seriously though, go and get welding cable. So they don't say Stinger or Streetwires on them, but ey, who cares?
As for busbars, nice one TUFF, it matches the terminals. I'm guessing stylus cut/machine/drill/polished them for u the same time he was making dash dial rings?
In most modern cars I don't think adding grounding points will reallly benefit thaaat much. Some of us are drawing the usual 100A or so with our stereos, which most stock grounds can handle. I just added two extra points to the chassis and I didn't notice any difference whatsoever.
Anyhows, busbars and extra cabling in the engine bay look cool anyway. What are them skinny power wires for anyway TUFF? same goes for ground cables too...whats with the 12gauage stuff?

1 skinny red wire does neons
other skinny red wire does inverter
skinny black wire is inverter (im running the inverter direct to battery)
explaino:D
I can't resist saying this.
NO MUFF TOO TUFF

im using 2 8gauge cables now (1 per amp)

beware of the noob but wat advantage would you get out of doing so much grounding? dosnt the car already have one? or the more the better? pliz explain

remove the files there and use imageshack to host... AMC already has a big enough problem with bandwidth.
Just moved this thread to http://www.aussiemagna.com/forums/showthread.php?p=571588#post571588 in hope for ideas to design a grounding kit for 2nd gens....
Theres a 3rd gen one already but us 2nd gens are left behind again.....:doubt:

Ooh, that looks nice. It's come a long way since I last saw it. Where'd you get the busbar?
