...well not really, but about as close as i'm going to get in auto form!
What does everyone reckon?
Sorry about the poor quality pic, don't have a digi camera and my phones camera is kinda dodgy. Also i know the floors a mess :P.
What i did, replaced the standard 3rd gen shifter with a 380 auto shifter and installed a leather manual gear boot thingy.

Totally agreed, but i couldn't see anywhere to mount it unless i had screws poking up through the console :(.

the 380 shifters have a button you pull in like a trigger on a gun (sorta).. its on the other side where u cant see it..

There are 4 bits of plastic sticking out just past each corner, is that what you're talking about? I'll have to find a screw that will thread itself in there. Though i think my biggest problem is making the gear boot stretch that far.

Sorry i missed this before.
The way the 3rd gen shifter works is that when you push the button on the top, this is connected to a plastic rod which goes down the shaft and allows you to change gears.
The biggest problem with the 380 shifter was that it is NOT designed to work with this plastic rod,i'd be interested to see how it works in the 3rd gen actually. The switch does push down, but it is WAY too weak and doesn't move nearly enough. The only way to do it is to strengthen the bit that flicks down and to mount the shifter so that it sits where the 3rd gen button would be pushed in half way, roughly enough so that it can be pushed down to move the gearstick but not down enough to move it freely.
In the process of testing out all this, i snapped the plastic rod (luckily had just enough left so that it could be fully pushed down to disengage the lever lock). At the moment the rod is very dodgily re-attached and the gear stick is mounted so that it sits with the lock fully disengaged at all times. You can go from D to N usually without needing the lock anyway and i've never knocked the gear lever in 4 years of driving, but i will be fixing it this weekend as ya never know :).
