k...was having a thread in the audio section about which AWG cables to use for grounding and so i decided to put it here...

I looking at buying cable either from 0AWG or at most 6-8AWG.....seems like 0AWG cable are THICK as hell....so still deciding...

TUFFTR has one in his engine bay and it looks sweet as hell.....just luv the battary adaptor plate that was made by another member here. Great work

SO ... just tot us 2nd gen owners and get together and try to design a 'grounding Kit' just for US!!! I looking at bulk buying the cables and parts to cut cost down...and if a "kit" does goes in to the making, then we can set up a DIY guide.

It would be great if anyone can give idea on the ideal locations for grounding and the perhaps the reason for that spot e.i. ground the headlight for maintaining brightness etc

Cheers:)

I still haven't started the car yet and taken it for a drive so i cant comment on how its gone...mainly cause i cbf'd filling the garage with smoke..

the way ive run mine is in a very tight location so ive only got enough room for 4 extra earth points.
If you remove your washer bottle, you could possible use that space in front of the battery as the location for a bushbar and run that back to the - terminal

I didn't really design much, just used my eyes to measure from points and yeah.....
only 1 question i need answered still, the big crimps....how do i crimp them properly to the 4ga? ive just squashed them used a vice and my many muscles:cool: haha.....

some are solid and some are still loose.....so yeah still needa figure that one out..

That other member was me :)

If anyone else is interessted just give me a pm and let me know. TUFF's bushbar setup isn't very expensive either.

i'm interested....i don't really need one but it looks cool and neat :D. Plus i'm thinking of removing my 2 wires and replacing with the 1 big one. Not sure if it'll make a difference at all though.

I didn't feel anything different to before......so either i suck at putting pieces of wire into crimps....or i need more earth points....
ah well...

This may be a funny question to ask but why do you have to have a grounding kit, with wires going to all different spots of the car for
dosen't the car alredy have one

no-one has to have it....
the theory behind it is your picking up extra current the cars electrical system puts out.
putting a piece of wire to the radiator bolt will help pick up extra current that may be earthing itself through your coolant and thus causeing electrolosis (hope im right on that one)
the one to the back of the engine is simple replacing what was there but with a bigger piece, again hopefully being able to return more power back to the battery.

and one to the chassis to pick up current from my stereo and misc electrical bits i have installed.

btw, if anyone has any other good places for me to put some pieces of wire please do tell.
(and feel free to correct me.....i could be wrong:confused: )

I have been told that Barry's kit runs from a large battery connector for the negative terminal and run at least 6 gauge cable to chassis, engine block, alternator, cylinder heads, bulkhead and also from engine to chassis near the driver's side engine mount.

What you guys thinks? I actually thinking of getting 4 AWG cable? haha the bigger the better....too big? un-neccessary? has anyones' cable ever melted in the engine bay? I was thinking of sourcing marine cable with temperature rating till 103 degree....any idea what temperature rating is for normal cables from jaycar, jb hi-fi and so?
