the constant power to the stereoin a ts is the solid red cable yeh?

Sounds right. From memory the thick power cable is the permanent cable and the thin one is the accessory cable.

i cant remember its been a while.
easy way to find out is if you have one of the test lights (screwdriver with a light in the end and an earth wire) and put it on the wire when the ignition is off.
thats how i did mine.

ok thanks, now what would the best way to splice into it for my clock? would just stripping a bit of plastic off it and soldering the clock wire to it do or is there a better way

thats the way i would do it (and will do for my TS). but there may be some sort of clips you can use. they usually come with your head unit in the box.
M4DDOG has used them i know, maybe that could be a better way?

thanks man, i really dont know much bout auto elecs hey, only very limited memory of yr8 electronics which was the most basic soldering ever, i reckon i'll just splice and solder the power cable.

bwhaha! thats the same as me! when it comes to electronics, im like "wft does this wire do again??"
what wires are you going to splice into to give the clock power and all the others? do you have to extend any wires aswell? like i said im going to do this to my TS once i get the aircon vent to suit

Yes i have used them and no i DONT recommend them unless you buy the good ones, i made the mistake of buying the cheap ones and the clips pop out too easily on them.
How many wires are there for the clock? Does it have a light?
If it has a light, i'd say there will be 3-4 wires. 1-2 ground, 1 power for the light and 1 power for the actual clock. The power for the actual clock must go into your permanent power source. If i was you i'd just cut abit of rubber away from the power cable that's in the loom (giving yourself plenty of room to work with) and looping your clock power cable over it and then insulating the join. As for the light power wire (if it has one, never seen a 2nd gen clock up close) will need to go into the Acc. power wire with the same method as above. then lastly there may be 1 or 2 grounds depending on how they've worked the light/clock (if it has a light lol, no light will = 1 ground). This needs to go to the chasis or be connected to the chasis somehow. There are a few ground points around behind the dash, but the easiest way to find them would be to use a multimeter.

yeah there is a light in the clock, and from memory there are 4 wires. correct me if im wrong TS3.0.
i think i will do this very soon, because in the 2nd gen execs, unless you have your H.U on, there is no other clock in the car...
i wonder if you can replace the face of the clock like TUFFTR did with his white dials?

yes theres 4 wires, 1 power, 1 light and the other 2 are earths. The power im splicing into the stereo constant power, the light into the cigarette lighter light, and the grounds i was gunna put in the big black/yellow stereo earth but its bloody hard to get at so i might need a secondary earth point if anyone knows. i got the loom but cut it off too short so have to extent my wires. and yeh im just cutting back the rubber on the stereopower and ciggy lighter light lines and soldering/taping up to splice it in that way, hopefully it all works

good luck should work that way

Sounds like a plan mate .
That should work, theres a ground point down below the din slots, there's a bit of metal where i THINK the screw for the face screws in (has been awhile since i've touched 2nd gen electrics :().

hey for the 2 earth wires they both have to be extended anyway and since they are both going to the same ground point would it hurt so solder them both to a big thick bit of wire and then mount the one wire on the ground point instead of worrying about two seperate ones?
[TUFFTR]
23-08-2006, 09:40 AM
Dont see why you can't....but i would run them to seperate earth points if your running 2 wires.

Combining the earth wires shouldn't be a problem at all :).

thanks, hey tuff you know the earth point under ther stereo on the floor, how do you get at that? i dont know if its just the manual but theres some sort of a big thick cable goin straight over it which makes it really hard to get at, is there any other decent earth points under the dash anywhere? also am i able to tap into the cigarette lighters earth?

Ok for that one, you need a socket extension...then u can turn the bolt from a nice distance.
decent earth points? errr....just find a screw going into metal...sand it back and use that....thats all really.
and yes you are able to tap into ciggy power

should work by what youve described. let us know how it turns out :D

hey almost done just a question, the cigarette lighter light has 2 wires, one that is green and white, and the other is black. i dont have any testers or multimeters but i need to know which wire i need to connect the clock light to. i'll get the circuit diagram to help you guys work it out if you dont already know.
M4DDOG
23-08-2006, 10:27 AM
black will most likely be ground, green i THINK is light power. Easiest way to tell is turn the car off, touch the clocks power light to the end of the green wire and connect the clocks earth to the black wire of the cig lighter. If it illuminates, it's the other one lol.

well its all in but i doesnt look like it works, i dunno what i did wrong, possibly the wire i used to extend the loom wires is to thick, but yeh its the same as my front map lights, i do it exactly how it should be done as best as i can and it doesnt work

Did you test it to make sure there was power going to it?
Sure the clock even works?
ts3.0
23-08-2006, 12:28 PM
no im yet to buy some testing gear, i figured id try it and if it dont work i would then buy somethin to test it and if it didnt work get one that does, the wiring is all there so would be easy. either way i need some testing stuff whats good that doesnt cost an arm and a leg and can be used to test all sorts of stuff
also there has to be power goin to it i tapped into the one and only red wire going to the stereo which on mine is power and the stereo works

Pop your bonnet and connect the wires straight to the battery, you'll soon see if the clock works. You may have connected the wires wrongly?

thats so much effort its all wired in, would it hurt to take the clock out leaving the wires wired in and just touch a bit of wire on the battery and the other end on the pin of the clock? if doin that for just a second do i need it earthed? also what battery terminal would i touch?

If you have to ask i don't think it's a good idea lol.
