I will be sanding my car back this weekend, and want to remove the side strips off it... and bog up the gaps and just make it straight and paint it like that. Has anyone done this? And what does it look like if someone has done it... please gimme gimme pics.

Is this what you plan to do?

Beauty, did you photoshop that? Reckon you could smooth out the bumper if you did? I will love u forever!

That's exactly what I'm going to do!

I just realized that they don't sit in gaps... I don't have to bog anything. Wtf.

as far as i remember there are little holes for clips underneath the strips though, so you will need to fill those in some how

Ah thanks for the insight, Cobra82. I would've had to remove the strips to paint it anyway. Nice ride btw, I am thinking about painting my TR black at the moment. The standard colour is Stratos Grey, so it's like a metallic dark almost black grey colour, so black is nice and close to what it is already.

I put a new '95 TR front end on it so what it's sorta going to turn out like is what your car looks like =P I just did a few mods with the grille, maybe the bumper and other things to make it look really straight and nice.

na its not a chop. its a real car.

i think there are holes in the door that have clips going through them for the strips.

I have been thinking... the strip makes it look like it has more crap on it... which is better than looking like one little line. I am slowly disliking not seeing the strip now I see that car more and more!

I personally like the strip / cannot be assed removing it

It gives the car some shape and definition, without it, it would look like a yaris:doubt:

Ew tufftr said something toyota related, haha j/k.

I got bored a couple months ago and worked for dominos for like a weekend before I realized it was crap... I just wanted to drive my car and get paid, got to thash their yaris.

:bowrofl: :bowrofl:

there would still be a few lines there if you just wanted to fill the holes after removing the strips wouldnt there? because the strips actually sit into the doors.

just remember that even thought those strips dont look fantastic, they are there for a reason, and thats to protect the paintwork on the metal if someone is clumsy enough to open your door onto a wall, or someone opens their door onto yours

Thats my best mates car, James would slap you for that comment lol you should see the photos of it completely stripped, scary!!

There is holes all along in the doors where the clips go into, stupid idea i know but its hardly worth it with the work and $$ involved unless your already getting a respray, why not just paint them?

Since that photo he has done a lot of interior work but you can't really see anywhay.
If i was on the home PC i would upload a photo of the boot, looks awesome its been shaved and is nice and smooth, but at the moment it hasn't been driven its in the garage in Murwillumbah at the moment (the bast car this town has seen is normally a VN haha so it gets some damn attention) been garaged nearly 6 months because he gets defects everytime he drives it.

slyts6

IMO i think if he went to the effort of removing and bogging up the door strips, he should have removed the line thats on the front and rear bumpers.

BR377
24-08-2006, 09:44 AM
Yeah and if you see the pics of it under construction its looks like a write-off lol, soo much work i don't know why it wasn't fixed up, he pulled out the chrome strip so if you look closely there are little holes at the ends of the bumpers.

Oh and sorry for the hijack :D

It actually looks a bit different now. Those pics in my sig are when i first got it (hence missing stereo and spoiler). Pretty much everything in my profile is what i have done since those pics were taken.

Mine is like that aswell, had problems trying to find the right width crome strip to go in the bumpers. Ended up just leaving it as it is.

First 2 pics are it under construction at panel beater, you can see the plate just been welded into the boot for the smooth look.
When we went to look at it in the shop we thought omg what have they done, but turned out bloody awesome...

Sup guys, thanks for the comments. Its been a while since I've driven it now, have taken it too a few shows and won 5 trophies for it so far. But just over the defects and harrasment i get everytime I take it out cruising so garaged it for a while to save some more money to finish it off.

If all go's to plan it should see the S.E. Qld Autosalon Circuit next year, have got many more plans for it including 20's, air suspension and a full white leather interior, possibly a custom kit. So if all go's well, its looking to be Aus's best 2nd Gen, unless u guys can find me a better one :D

And to the guy that said something about smoothing out the strips in the rear bar, its plastic man, could only be done if it was plastic bogged or fibreglass modified. Bog is dodgy and if not done correctly would have got cracks in my paint so just left them. The holes behind the strips were all welded, along with the new sheet metald shaved boot.

Any more questions, just ask and I'll get back soon. Cya'll

James...

Nah man the strips were just taken off and then the holes were welded up, theres no big gaps or indents when u take the strips off, just the groove above which gives definition to car from front to back

Because thats what modifying a car is all about.. the end result.. whether someone plans on selling their car or not.

Plus it will also up the selling price...

Damn nice car though... !! :D

i know if i had the cash id be doing anything and everything to my 2nd gen. it's all personal choice and it's good because its not like the usual import where there are 20,000 in the one suburb.

hows about you go buy an import if youre so against magnas.

stop bagging people who choose to be original.

Hmmm i don't know maybe he didn't want to be associated with tossers and fully sik uleh's in their imitation skyline turbos. I think this car is one awesome 2nd gen magna, and it's good to see someone do something different. It's a shame that you are so narrow minded and I can't wait to see you driving a "Real jap car" that will cost you 4x as much to buy, 4x as much to insure and 4x as much to service.

Unfortunately when you put your car out there in the spotlight and do the work you do, it's natural to attract all sorts of attention, both negative and positive. Just take my old 2nd gen for example lmao.

I love that car, looks so tidy, modding a car is about personalising your car to your own interests for your 'own' self satissfaction, a true car enthusiest can appreciate a fine piece of workman ship without personally likeing it,
I don't have anything that looks as smick as that, i personally love the 2nd gen and tilt my hat to anyone who loves them more than i do,
keep up the good work and keep us posted on the car, if you ever want to sell it i'm sure as hell would love it too :D of course i might take it on a different path with my own tastes, but thats the enjoyment of doing something you love and owning an auto vehicle that you love

I got a group of people at the lights in southport, sitting in a wrx shaking their head at me laughing and sayin, who does up a magna!
Well they shut up when i beat them :P

Keep up the good work :D
