in the morning when the cars cold idels bout 600 amd feels close to stalling. yet give it time to warm um and it idles like a dream. ive got the haynes service manual and it says all idle speed is done by the isc. but how can that be fauly if when hot it works properly. it aslo says there is some wax pallat thing that does something with temperature. what do you guys think may be my problem

More likely the Fast Idle Air Valve (the wax pellet thingo).

The wax pellet thingo is apart of the ISC and is what controls the idle when the cars cold (as the car heats up it melts the pellet and blocks the hole). When it happened to my TR, i just ended up buying a new ISC and it worked a charm.

I'm sorry to disagree but on the TR the Fast Idle Air Valve is not part of the Idle Speed Control Servo. They are both in the throttle body but are separate parts. Have a look at the workshop manual if you still aren't convinced.

The fast Idle Air Valve is controlled by engine coolant and does have a wax pellet whereas the ISC is a stepper motor run by the ecu.

Seeing as the Fast Idle Air Valve is expensive and hard to test it might be best to check the Idle Speed Control Servo first.

It has 6 terminals arranged as below.

l l

You should be testing each group of 3 separately. ie the black or the red above.

On a 2nd Gen about 85 to 90 ohm between the top and bottom ie the 2 red below:

and about 30 to 35 and 55 to 60 between the centre of the group of 3 and the top or bottom.

Similarly for the other 3.

Hope this helps.
